Dude is a beast, not that STL wants to move him but if they were listening, what would it take.

From a Leafs perspective I think he is exactly the type of Player the Leafs need (as do many teams) and with STL's depth at D what would a hypothetical deal look like between these 2 teams.

I would be looking at Connor Brown, Zach Hyman, or maybe Nikita Soshnikov. Would obviously prefer Brown.

Eddy is about the only regular 6 who plays with a bit of sandpaper. If Lindbohm were trusted, he could replace some of that grit as they both shoot left. But, the realistic return that we would get for Eddy would be so minimal, it is better to just keep him in the lineup.

Interested in Bortuzzo?

I am not sure if the Leafs would or not, I am high on JE so it is more of a personal preference so I wouldn't have interest in him hypothetically, but yeah I get your point, I can see his value to the blues for sure.

Heard good things about Edmundson but haven't really watched him play.

What's the scouting report on him currently and his potential.

All I know is that he is a right shot (and big plus for us)

Edmundson is not a right shot.

He's okay but nothing special. Brings good physicality to a team but his decision making with the puck is questionable. I could see him being a good #5 or decent #4, but that's about it.

I'm all for adding D prospects but they gotta be a RHD.. it just doesn't make sense to add more LHD with Reilly, Gardiner, Marincin playing LHD as well as quality prospects like Dermott and Nielson developing.

The scouting report is that he's a standard angry 3rd pairing defenseman

The leafs have at most 1 actual top-4 defenseman right now. In no world do they have the pieces to be able to deny 50% of the market for the ONLY position the team needs to upgrade.

The trade world isn't so perfect that you can demand handedness. If a LHD trade works, an actual top-4 with top-pairing potential, the leafs would be insane to pass on it because of Jake Gardiner and Martin Marincin. You've gotta be kidding me. They have the 30th best defense in the NHL and you're cutting out 50% of their prospects to upgrade? Wow.

I like Edmundson too. Could certainly use his physicality on Toronto's blueline.
If a similarly valued forward would suffice I think the offer of Brown or Soshnikov( I could see him working out really well on the Blues) are fair value.

Sorry where is Edmunson a lock to be top 4? Reilly and Gardiner are both top 4 LHD and don't play the right side. Does Edmunson play the right side? If so then sure let's talk about it. We're not in a hurry to move out any of Hyman Brown or Soshnikov. We don't need to force a trade cause he's a defenseman unless he can actually make an impact.

We've got plenty of good bottom pairing LHD coming up. With a variety of playing styles as well.

We have a top pairing LHD in Rielly, and two good 2nd pairing defensemen in Gardiner (LHD) and Zaitsev (RHD). Zaitsev may be able to become a top pairing guy eventually, which may be a reason the Leafs won't break the bank for a top pairing RHD guy, but some sort of guy who can play good top 4 (preferably good top pairing obviously) on the right side is the only thing this team needs right now.

There isn't really any room for a similar forward swap in St. Louis. Jaskin, Rattie, and Yakupov (on the 4th line tnt) are fighting for spots as it is with Barbashev waiting in Chicago.

this happened earlier this summer and blues fans said kapanen wasnt enough, and wanted nylander.

the thread rightfully ended there

1 top 4 dman? curious which 2 of Rielly,Gardiner and Zaitsev you dont think are top 4. also curious if you watched a minute of leafs action this year (unlikely)

that isn't gonna happen for obvious reasons. Hyman has chemistry with matthews and nylander so doubt he is moved but sosh could be had.

wouldnt see much incentive to trade him. Who would they protect as their third dman? (Knowing Parayko is exempt and assuming shattenkirk does not re-sign)

Even though you invalidated your opinion right off the hop, have a read of this:
https://hockey-graphs.com/2016/03/04/quantifying-the-importance-of-handedness/

As you point out yourself, it's the only position we need to upgrade. We have 3 top 4 D, and at least 2 prospects in the AHL with top 4 upside - all except for 1 of which (Zaitsev) are left handed

We precisely need to limit our search to RHD, unless someone with huge upside comes available, because handedness matters and there's no urgency for the leafs to plug any holes right now

if all he is a 3rd pairing dman young or not then, leafs pass on trading one of hyman, sosh or brown but if he has top 4 upside, take your pick imo and we add a bit.

He's just 23 and he gets some games playing top 4. Blues have a top pair and roll 2 even pairings most of the time anyway since Shatty and Parayko are both RHD.

Anyway, he isn't quite there yet but the he has the tools to become a legit 2nd pairing guy.
