If Montreal would retain 50%, I'd be fine with the Jets (assuming they don't go for a scorched-earth rebuild) trading Stanley or a mid round pick. The Jets have a logjam at LHD and almost no right handed forwards.

Armia at 3.4M has negative value. At 1.7M he has some value.

Armia is not a special player.
He can not play long term in a top 6 forward
A depth player turn around a 4 to 6 round pick but never more than that.

Armia is a very special player. He has tools to be a Top6 player - he just uses them way too seldom. He is good at PK and van be a very good asset, if he wants too. I`d say his head is the problem. When played in WC for Team Finland, he gave 100% every game and looked as good as Granlund.
At his salary right now, he wont fetch more than a late pick. He do have the tools to turn his game around, but its not certain. I`d say he gets traded for another reclamation-project or then retained 25-50% for a higher pick

He can play a 200 ft game in the NHL so he's worth more than a bottom pick that wouldn't make it to the Show, imo, so why trade him now? I think he was affected by Ducharme's coaching like many of the other players. The team gains quite a bit if his play picks up with MSL.

He perform well at WC reason why ... that tournament is under NHL level.
Yes he's got tools but he's not using well in NHL.

he had the tools which is why Buffalo drafted him mid 1st. He was an enigma.

an issue with him was he came from a small town in Finland so homesickness stuff kicks in.

he might perform better on a team with more Fins on the team.

Joel Armia is a horrible overpaid lazy NHLer, his value is nothing because that’s what he brings to a team. Please take him for free, we’ll even throw in a 5th round pick.

Nah bro, totally different player night and day, not even in the same universe. The ONLY connection is nationality, but that seems to draw countless comparisons on HF.
Your not in sales as a living are you ?

Like Lehkonen, Armia strikes me as a player who would really benefit from playing with better linemates.

You're not wrong! Armia is not some 4th line bum. But like always, a player drowns on a bad team and the "experts" come out to play

Armia rocked the IIHF , but in the NHL seems like is not that good

Maybe he played with better players and better usage than his last year with the Habs? :sarcasm:

Maybe with 25-30% retained. Doubt he fetches a 2nd with 3,4M.

It's not cap dump. It's Armia being offered to a team looking for a big body who protects the puck well and has a good shot. Solid 3rd liner and can play top 6 if you need him too. Not all 3rd liners are paid $2M or less. His contract is fair for what you get. Armia would have got more as a UFA this summer if he didn't take the $3.4M from the Habs. Most Habs fans though he was getting $4M+ if he reached UFA.

I think we easily get a 2nd rounder. Shaw got a 2nd and 3rd so Armia can get a 2nd.

Habs will explore their options as we move more and more to a rebuild but all we have to do this summer to create cap flexibility is either move Weber to LTIR or trade him to the Coyotes. Problem solved. We don't need to shed any more salary in bad deals and we have contracts that will expire as the next 1-3 seasons pass by.

Armia value thread won't reveal his true value on HF boards and some fans think we are desperate to move him. Not really the case.

Or keep him and play him. Why would habs buy him out or give up value to trade him when rebuilding?

If OTHER players are moved out to create cap space, then sure. But at least 1 or 2 guys have to go, and perhaps Armia is it.

I’m obviously responding to the OP about Armia specifically. He has negative trade value at full salary. So if they want to move him, they either have to include a sweetener, OR retain $1-1.5M (at which value they might get a 3rd or 4th rounder for him), or just buy him out.

I like armia, would take him on the Avs if his contract had retention.
Not retaining anything on this bum. Take him for free as is. He can become your problem.

We can just play out his contract and let him lose more value and let a team get him for cheaper. He’s a lazy good for nothing player so he deserve a pay decrease.

Naah. Habs are in rebuild mode they're in no rush to shed salary. They'll happily retain 50% at the Trade Deadline in 2025.
