Player Discussion Joel Armia Your Favorite Finnish Player Edition

Why would anyone want to sign 32 years old Armia is beyond my comprehension. There will be better and younger options on the UFA market.

How easy people forget that Armia and Dvorak were ghost for like at least 2/3 of the duration of their contract is baffling.

Armia was waived last season and not claimed despite a relatively honest contract. I'd rather throw money at Trent Frederic.

The only value is PK, he's been elite at that since Jets. A solid 4th liner and main PK duties 2,5 million a year, I'd see value in that.

Almost everyone can be good on the PK if they dedicate to it. Beside our PK finished 9th which is good but not what i would considered elite.

Yeah I know, that's why 2 mill. It's actually really low. But of course there can be others taught into that role.

One of our worst players after the 4 Nations and into the playoffs, even his PK wasn’t anything special, often failing to clear the puck. I throw up in my mouth a little thinking of him coming back - we have drafted and developed very poorly if we have nobody to use the oxygen he’s been wasting 80% of his time in a Habs jersey.

I have no interest because if anyones honest, we just dont know what you will get from Armia day to day, month to month, season to season

He can PK and work the boards, well when he feels like it but id prefer someone who has more pushback on the bottom lines. The lack of physicality in the bottom 6 (or roster as a whole) has to be addressed. Bottom 6 is generally easiest to make a makeover on

We know he is, and its just time for a different type of player

There's room for Armia if other players like Newhook or Heinemen are sent out.
Only way Armia can stay is if we trade Newhook i think.

Anderson - Dach - Gallagher
Heineman - Evans - Armia

Is a solid bottom 6, only reason I'd want to kep armia is he is an excellent PKer especially with Evans.
Yeah, in an ideal world, HuGo has the new 2c before july 1t. If one or two of the following six bottom six players are used in the trade, that opens up a spot for Armia and/or Dvo to come back.

Anderson - Newhook - Gallagher
Heineman - Evans - Dach

Or, Hughes could decide to move one or two of those players and bring back Dvo and Armia. I think everyone of those players deserves better than starting off as 13th or 14th forward.

With Evans re-signed and Anderson playing well on the PK this year, it makes the decision to let Armia walk that much easier. He played very well for us the last year and a half, but who knows which Armia you'll get next year. Time to fill our bottom six with younger guys on cheap contracts and use the extra cap space to improve our C and D.

Yzerman loves overpaying UFA 3rd liners so he'll probably sign Armia to a 5 year deal.

They could roll out this line again.
Heineman - Evans - Armia

They were good until the car accident, Evans contract negotiations. Then the hand fracture.

OTOH, you have Dach and the rookies.

Beyond done with him. Doesn’t belong in the highest pro league anymore

He's been playing with a broken hand, which was obvious to most of us.
Armia when healthy is a really good on the PK and a good puck possession player that can eat a lot of minutes in the o-zone from the 4th line..
That being said, need to start saving cap $ where you can because we have some massive contracts coming up with Hutson and Demidov in the next couple years. Time to move on from overpaid bottom 6 guys.

He was playing like a beast this year before his hand injury. I'm ok with moving on but I loved him

I'm finally wrapping my mind around the idea of letting Armia go. I've always liked defensive players, but they need to score from time to time, like Byron or Lekhonen used to.

Habs cannot have that many players who are unable to score on 5vs5. We already have Evans, Newhook and Laine, no more room for a "specialist", as good as he can be on the PK. In retrospect, I might have preferred to keep the big sized PK specialist over the small center, but since Evans has already been resigned, Armia should go imo.

I'd resign him, but not at his current salary

It would also depends of who's ready in laval

If Lil' Xhekaj is ready, he should take his place

I’d rather just give that icetime to Owen Beck

Hes a good player when he's healthy but it's a struggle for him when he is not, and that happens often. He was not able to contribute much after his wrist injury, and it's too much of a re-occuring theme for me to re-invest

It sucks because I like him alot when he's on top of his game.

We need an upgrade in the bottom 6 big time........Newhook and Dach are more than likely to be there, because we will hopefully be adding at least one or 2 guys in the top 6. One for sure in a 2C.

Guys like Dvorak and Armia were lost all season, until closer to the deadline when they amped it up and the Captain saved their bacon from being dealt for a pick.

Sorry guys there has to be an upgrade in the bottom 6 and Andy and Gally are staying at this point.

So if Andy Gally Evans Dach Newhook are staying… Sounds like if anyone from the farm gets ice on the bottom 6 that’s it..
