Kinda looks like McDavid with a longer face.

Its about time. Finally saw the writing on the wall.

Seems like a guy who would make a great coach down the line if he chooses to go that route.
I find sometimes these super high IQ players (like Thornton) have a tough time coaching because they expect their players to be able to anticipate plays the way they did, when in reality most players can’t think the game at that high of a level.

There’s a reason most successful NHL coaches weren’t HoF worthy players. Some were barely NHL players at all.

Legend, sad about not getting that Cup but he's got no shortage Canadian NT hardware. Another childhood hero finished by father time.

He never took 4 shots in a game.

He was also a big reason they never won a Cup. That and the useless coach.

He consistently led his team in points and possession numbers every single playoff series he was here.

I was just watching this Youtube video a few days ago and it's just insane the amount of playoff goals that were a direct result of his play, regardless of whether or not he got a point out of it.

His father (I'm assuming the guy on my left in the screen shot) looks healthier?

Anyway nevermind, I don't wan't to go on about the beard in a retirement thread and seem like a jackass.

Great player...........
I think it's just for men. Yeah, great player.

the degree to which he changed the game while he was on the ice was EVERYTHING for the Sharks. Absolutely dominant on the puck. As long as he was the 1C he drove the bus while he was out there. It's a shame those knee injuries took a way a couple more bites at the apple.. But he'll always be an absolute beaut.

His game was perfect for the DPE/one-line pass era. In-zone playmaking there was no one better, and the game literally evolved to counter his style of play.

Good to see an actual player announce their retirement rather than these plugs like Kassian who are trying to get one more moment of notoriety.

While I was never a San Jose fan per se, I absolutely loved Jumbo when I first got into hockey some 20 years ago.

Shame he didn't win a cup but damn if he didn't have a fantastic career. Good luck, Jumbo! Enjoy that much earned retirement and see ya soon for the inevitable HHoF nod.
