Joe Thornton retires

Its about time. Finally saw the writing on the wall.

Seems like a guy who would make a great coach down the line if he chooses to go that route.

His legend will grow in retirement. He was a lightning rod of controversy for a variety of reasons, but he was an undeniable Hall of Famer who put up some of the best production of all time.

I was fortunate to see him walk down the player tunnel for the first time in his first NHL appearance, in an otherwise obscure preseason game. When I think about all my changes in my life since that day 25+ years ago, it really puts into perspective the scope of his career across multiple eras.

A shame we never got to see that four goal game from him.

Stuck around longer than he should've due to elite hockey IQ and vision. The most productive player from the dead puck era by far.
