Straight legend. When I first played I modeled my game after him, playmaking power forward with passing ability and hands. He’ll likely be my favorite non Sabre player for life along with datsyuk and ovechkin. Enjoy retirement cup less champ

His legend will grow in retirement. He was a lightning rod of controversy for a variety of reasons, but he was an undeniable Hall of Famer who put up some of the best production of all time.

I was fortunate to see him walk down the player tunnel for the first time in his first NHL appearance, in an otherwise obscure preseason game. When I think about all my changes in my life since that day 25+ years ago, it really puts into perspective the scope of his career across multiple eras.

Depends on how you define the generation. He was a great player, but he is a tail end Gen Xer, if we are using that, there's competition. For instance, I'd take Jagr over Joe.
