News Article: Joe Micheleti announces retirement

I've often been critical of Joe in the booth, but some of that was probably unfair in that I was always comparing him to JD (and NO ONE holds a candle to JD).

What's undeniable is the guy is extremely knowledgable and well connected in the world of hockey, and is one of the nicest people in the sport. I've met him (and his family) a handful of times. Guy is such a joy to speak to. Hockey royalty in Minnesota.

I do wonder if he was planning this for a while (in which case, all the credit in the world for not announcing it and giving Sam his moment - although he 100% due his own celebration from the fans), or if he made the decision more recently once the season ended. Not that it's any of my business, but I'm super curious and asking around...

I'll echo what the others have said, extremely classy to announce it after the season & not take the spotlight away from Sam.

Joe had a good run here. I actually liked him better on national games, but he did well filling JD's shoes. As best as could be expected.

Enjoy retirement, Joe.

Thinking about it, if MSGN is sold to a YES for example, Dave Maloney might be able to himself and not company man. So I might be ok with that.

As for Micheletti, I met him last year randomly near the Garden after a game in the Hurricanes series. Him and his wife were very nice and cool to see him. He wasn’t JD, but him and Sam were a great pair for many years.

Would be fine with Maloney too.

Kenny isn't as passive aggressive as Sam, and Maloney is a guy that brings the lumber when he has to.
