I'd kill to have Joe Bowen back on TV calling the games again.

It's such an obvious choice, I don't get why they don't and don't tell me its because he's a massive homer, most home town callers are.

He brings so much life to the games, i just don't get it. In the playoffs I literally sync my audio with the radio just to hear him. He is bar down, hands down, the best.

Personally a huge fan of him. I think for what the NHL is trying to do it doesn’t work. Then again neither does Jack EDWARDS but Bruins dgaf

His voice is the sound of like all my hockey memories growing up. All-time great. A few times I've ended up stuck driving during a game, and I was kind of excited because I get to listen to his play-by-play instead of watching the game.

I'm convinced that I like Harverys' burgers more because he did some of their commercials.

Was Joe sick tonight? Todd Crocker was doing the play by play tonight with Jim Ralph....

Man I was listening on my way to Niagara, the first 3 goals(wings and leafs x2) I didn’t even know the team scored because Crocker had no energy lol.

He was cracking up at the officials making a mess of the first disallowed goal the other night.

You can tell Joe has a little throat bug in that broadcast.

I wonder if Joe being such a loyal guy wants to work with Ralph and wouldn't want to leave his partner behind to work TV at this point in his career.

I much prefer both Chris Cuthbert and Gord Miller to Bowen. I think Bowen is way too over the top.

I seriously wonder about fans who need an over excited announcer to get excited about their team.
You seriously wonder about people who have a preference to an announcer? What does that even mean?

No one stated that they need Bowen back to be excited about the team.

Am I the only one who found that whole segment annoying

Sorry. I wasn't directly referring to this thread with the comments about needing Bowen to get excited about the Leafs performance. It is, though, an idea that I have seen expressed by others on these boards.

We just need an announcer that doesn't hate our team...

Because SN AND TSN both see themselves as "national broadcasters" it's like Simpson always shading the Leafs because he doesn't want to be viewed as a homer.

Chris Cuthbert is the best in the business but Rogers has gotten it wrong. Every broadcast now is pretty much the same. I'd love Bowen to call our regional games on weekdays, and Saturday nights should be the only time you hear Chris Cuthbert. Just how it was with Bob Cole back in the day. Now there is nothing special about Saturday or any other national broadcast.

This is exactly it - they know the Leafs get beamed across the country (not sure how regional blackouts apply), so they tailor their broadcasts in that way too; it's not just "shade against the Leafs" every now and again to appear more balanced, but also with how much time they spend discussing the opposition & stuff around the league.

Ever watch a SNET West broadcast for a Canucks game? It's all Canucks, all the time, with limited amounts of negativity. They barely ever discuss the opposition, unless the Canucks are getting rinsed & they can't conjure up something good to say (earlier this year in particular).

Both SN and TSN show Leaf game regionally.

Tune into the Flames/ Canucks/ Oilers etc broadcast and they don't try to hide their homerism.

I don't believe Simpson hates the Leafs, bit he is not a fan. They Leafs should have their announcer and play by play being homers.

The panel can be or try to appear unbiased

Dreger once said their production team treat regional Leafs games as national broadcasts.

I believe that. The Leafs regional is nothing like the other Canadian teams broadcasts

Omg....get out the soap...you are grounded. You must listen to Jim Huson call 100 games in shear boredom and then go back and listen to Danny Gallivan once. Then tell us that excited announcers are not great. Why don't you just turn off the sound.

Does Simpson do any regional games? He doesn’t even do all of the national games. Gary Galley does some of those.
