Joan Plowright 95

RIP

I'll watch Enchanted April this weekend. One of those soppy movies that I shouldn't like, but it moves me to tears. She's absolutely brilliant in it.

While did not reach the levels of Dench and Mirren in the US. She had a wider acting portfolio than both. People may disagree with me. But as you posted, she could do broad comedy like Bringing Down the House or Dennis the Mennis and drama pieces like Jane Eyre and Enchanted April.

She gave an interview right before she retired and she was asked what her late husband would think of some of the more off the wall roles she did. She was not amused by the question and pointed out that the interviewer had clearly only knew about Larry's more popular roles over looking some of the panto's he crashed in the 50/60's and the farcicals he did both on stage and in the movies. Here line was "acting is acting and one must not let them Pidgeon hole you in as in one spot."
