Confirmed with Link: JJ Peterka Traded to Utah for Michael Kesselring and Josh Doan

I'm surprised at the overall response to this trade in this thread. This is a strong move from a roster construction perspective.

Once gain, the Sabres acquire multiple pieces for one of ours. Why? Because we are always giving up the best player.

I want a trade where we give up multiple pieces to acquire the better player in the transaction.

A few more thoughts and observations after a nap

JJP's defensive play and data was abominable, Jeff Skinner like and he hurt them more than he helped. Did he check out to eventually get traded ?

He was not great on the PP

Sabres will miss his speed

He is 23

I would of preferred Crouse or McBain over Doan

A pick swap would of rounded the deal out

Not getting either of those makes this deal sting

The last Walsh client he pulled this with was Jonathan Drouin and Tampa got Sergachev back who is now with Utah

The fan base outside of HF is not happy first 3 calls into wgr: its embarrassing, another deep wound, and cancelling season tickets

In the end it was NOT about going to a bigger city like NYC or LA, he went to a smaller city in a Dry state (unless at a private club or the arena) than Buffalo it was about 50M.

How long before Tuch & Dahlin bail out now ?
It can also be added that Peterka has a lot of secondary assists and that without Tage he has very bad metric, it seems even worse than Byram without Dahlin.

One of the biggest complaints against Adams, and a valid one, is he did not do a good job of constructing a team. This trade improves Buffalo as a team.

Some of you maybe need to get rid of the agendas.

How do you even know that? Kesserling can remain a bottom pairing D man and Doan can continue to be a 4th liner... this declaration is absurd. At least with Savoie trade we were trading a guy that had only played a handful of AHL games. We are literally the only one that is taking on any risk.

Adams is a clown.

Was Savoie better than McLeod? I think we clearly didn't lose that trade.

Kesselring and Whitecloud were on my list from the start, the only two RDs in the entire league, no trade protection and under contract.

Are we talking Peterka or Marner/Rantanen here?

I'm the first to pile on Adams, but I get his reasoning here. We really needed a good RHD, we've needed one for years now. Did we overpay to get one? Absolutely, which is why I've been screaming that we shouldn't be ignoring drafting defenseman.

The same can be said about Peterka, you need to look at things more broadly and be objective.

That was a 1 for 1 deal. Read what I said.

Not a fan. That's all I got. This is the underwhelming return that we had to expect with GMKA at the helm. It does make the team harder to play again, but quite a few are completely right ✅️ Adams said we're saving our capital to sign our young stars. He just outted himself as a hypocrite and soft. Any real GM would have told Peterka's camp shut up you have NO LEVERAGE. This trade is proof Adams has unlimited protection. This is going to get massive outrage. Adams reconfirmed all of his previous confirmations. Cheap, we only want guys who want to be here sentimentality, and we cave/and do not hold out for leverage when we have all the leverage.

We got guys who can win puck battles and punch other guys. When you refuse to draft that, it comes at a bigger cost. It was time to pay the piper.
Those guys always cost a premium, especially if they can play in the top-9 or top-4.

I suppose I'm good with this trade due to the impacts it has on team building? Doan is an enticing player and Kesselring is damn near the perfect partner for Power. Now get me Rossi and an LD, and I'm ok with this offseason.

That's the problem, we don't know right now if Peterka will be the best player in a deal without all the nuances. I think it's too early to say what it will look like in practice, but so far I can't say it's a bad deal. We filled some important needs and we had no problems scoring goals. I'll also wait for the draft/UFA and other deals.

Raise the banner, we got a RD after 5 years! -Jeremy White snide cannon from 100 holes from Roswell just now

I would also think about adding a goalie, at least a Reimer type, it’s scary with the UPL and Levi, although our defense should definitely get better, but adding another top 4 D is very important now.

No..the f***ing same thing can not be said about Peterka.

Adams can objectively and broadly kiss my ass.

This is a shot in the dark type move using your best trade chip. A f***ing hope and a prayer.

I was shocked by how universally hated it was when I read through the thread.
first 3 calls on wgr this morning from fans: its embarrassing, another deep wound just when you think it could not get any worse, and cancelling season tickets

there were many JJP jerseys out there

Well, I disagree here, Peterka didn't even put up Necas' numbers at the time of the trade, and he had a lot of warts. Okay, maybe you don't like Kesselring (though I've always been high on him), maybe you don't like another guy in the trade. We just value Peterka completely differently.

Martin Biron agrees with you. Problem is there are not many options. Were hearing Jake Allen to NJ for 2/10M, and Vladar re-signing elsewhere. It gets thin quick.

25 year old dman with not even 2 seasons of games played and averages under 17 minutes a game is a “great add” and a “good dman”… same people also want to jettison Power

This team is beyond f***ed. I truly hope Peterka embarrasses this franchise like every other player who has left recently

People don't know how good Kesselring is. Plain and simple.

Look - I'm not saying he's Gustav Forsling by any means. BUT Florida got Forsling *on waivers* and he was one of the most important players to that D core's two Cup runs. You need the defense-first types. Kesselring has a really good chance of being the Power partner solution.

I think you're underrating Doan here. He sure seems like that middle 6 PITA to play against that nearly all playoff teams have.

That piece should not cost a young top forward. Again the Sabres trade a $1 bill for 2 quarters at best. Always the team trading the best player and getting jack shit in return. Adams is such a f***ing joke

I really hope that Doan isn’t one of the top-6 acquisitions they supposedly wanted to make
This is my biggest hold up. Where does he play? It can't be in the top-6. My realistic hope is they add Rossi, but that still means Kulich probably gets top-6 minutes, which I was never a fan of. Doan may take Greenway's spot on the 3rd line. Maybe they trade Greenway, or he becomes an overpaid, but really good 4th liner.

Also, Jarmo's philosophy already coming to fruition? He said a team needs big guys who play big...well, here you go.

But the overall return is below par, you cant put on blinders about that

saying all that I liked Kesselring as a idea before the deal as a option just after Whitecloud, and a vet RD (with complicated NTC likely).

ps update 6-1 on calls on wgr against the trade, last call... the rink manager gm should be embarrassed

Kesselring has legit skill.
I was hoping all season my team would somehow acquire him.
He was top 10 in the NHL amongst defencemen in first assists 5v5 and the other names are all household guys (Kesselring also had much less icetime while posting these numbers).
He can skate, pass, score, has some grit to his game and solid defensively.

I think he was one of the better players leaguewide to acquire and have fully breakout on another team.
