Confirmed with Link: JJ Peterka Traded to Utah for Michael Kesselring and Josh Doan

People are overreacting to this trade because Buffalo has been run like a clown show but this trade is not nearly as bad as it seems.

Kesselring is a real good playerand valuable asset. Getting a smooth skating, rangy, two-way right-shot defensemen who’s 25 years old and cost controlled is next to impossible in today’s NHL. Take any high pick defensemen that plays exactly like Kesselring and the value would be extremely high. No one watched Arizona and not many watched Utah. Not many people actually know Kesselring so most people just assume he’s your standard 3rd pairing guy but he’s not. Great player you guys will absolutely love him and I think he actually helps you guys win more than Peterka. Scoring is not an issue in Buffalo…
Great post!

I like Kessering, but what about Doan. he good?
6'2", 200 pounds. Not as talented as his father Shane.....but just as hardworking.

If he hits, he'll be a 2nd line winger who will be a complete menace.

More realistically.....he's probably a 2nd/3rd line tweener who will hit 20/20 in his good years while being a maniac on the forecheck and be a pain in the ass to play against.

Worst case scenario -- he's a speedy, crashing, forechecking 4th liner who has stone for hands.

Works for me. Similar to trading Savoie, we trade JJP and still have young smallish skill wingers in spades. Can't speak to the value but I know a lot on this board were hoping for kesserling all year.

Top 4 not bad if we keep Byram tbh. Package #9 to bring in another forward?

We should likely wait a few days for things to cool down but I need to ask did Walsh squeeze Adams by his balls on this one in the end ?

I still wonder if there was a imminent offer sheet coming in for JJP ?
It seems simple to me. Peterka didn't want to be in Buffalo, and Adams said yesterday that he doesn't want to pay guys big money who don't want to be in Buffalo. They talk about Terry saving money here, but it will be easy to check if we go and get a top 6 Forward somewhere else like Kyrou or Rossi, it doesn't matter, then Terry didn't save money in this deal, we also need to see on cap.

Whitecloud immediately became untouchable once Petro's status was put into major question.
You guys will probably laugh at me since outside of Vancouver most haven't seen how good he's actually played in the top four but Tyler Myers might become available if the nucks need to create cap if they have a deal or trade worked out that costs more than the 7 million in cap we currently have.with D-Petey, Willander and Mancini all knocking at the door along with Forbort able to play both sides in the bottom pairing, Myers might be expendable.
He had 29 and 24 points and a was a plus 16 and plus 2 but that went way up after Soucy was moved and stopped dragging him down.
Was also our 2nd best pker on a team that was #2 overall but #1 since February I believe?
I'm not even sure he would be available but I could see him being moved if they have a chance to land a big piece at forward

I initially liked the idea of Kyrou but after seeing his defensive data I think it would be just another JJP and I think they want defensive responsible guys.

I would really like to still take a run at Robertson, but I think Zman has convinced me that ship has sailed now.

Not sure we have the ammo for Rossi now seeing Byram does not seem like a fit there and 9OA not enough. I doubt Guerin likes or has patience for Ostlund for ie.

We may have to think about some other options after a good sleep tonight. But go for it if you have any ideas.

Well, I just gave an example of two players, it could be Ehlers in UFA, Terry from Anaheim, it could be someone else, the point is that we will find out whether Terry is ready to pay now or he is saving again.

It's encouraging that people like Kesselring but it's such a red flag to me that he couldn't even get to 18 minutes per game with the injuries on the Utah blueline.

Feeling a lot better about Doan than I did earlier at least.

It seems they said that he hardly played in special teams, I think we need to see how he plays on the PK, it is unlikely to be worse than Bryson and Jokiharju. Then his time will probably be closer to 18-20 minutes.

I think the rumor about Terry being available was retracted.

There has been Ehlers smoke in the past as you know but he would not waive to come. Could money/term change that ?

The rest of the FA list (after the top 10 for ie) is fugly

Your likely looking at a guy like Rust again in trade

Holy hyperbole. There are PLENTY of reactions that think we did just fine. Yes, maybe a slight loss of value.....but there are plenty of people out there that like the guys we brought in.
Nothing wrong with the guys you brought in and while Kess is extremely overrated at this point in regards to being stop four when he's never actually played top four for any length of time, I think JJ is a great but some of the pieces offered here and rejected was a little silly, given he's a winger that struggles defensively

I mean at the end of the day you guys have a ton of forward prospects and if kesser can actually perform well in a top four role, you guys are probably a better team.

Oh well. Gotta wait and see how it works out. Getting players that know how to play defense is always a win.

Again, maybe I'm expressing myself incorrectly, but I'm just saying that it could be any player who has a fairly large salary. This will show Terry's intentions.

The majority here liked Kesselring, he was favorite idea (and alternative to a Whitecloud for ie) on the board leading up to things and chatter the last few months. As been mentioned though the full return seemed a bit underwhelming at first as some were expecting a 4/9 pick swap as well.

For what it’s worth to Sabres fans, as a red wing fan, I think this trade probably makes you a better team long term. Kesselring will help solidify your defense and he’s another 6’5 giant to add to your defense core. Doan will eventually be a solid 3rd liner by my estimates. Yeah it hurts to lose Peterka but I think you guys have enough skilled offensive prospects to make up for it.

This trade makes you a lot harder to play against in my opinion, and is overall one that will be looked back at as a win/win.
