I even defended a 2nd for Malenstyn when people were mad.

I don't love either trade. But both trades end up with players coming back that fill needs. So at the least they seem to be acknowledging obvious holes finally

Adams has not shown he will never do enough every off-season. Perhaps having Jarmo around changes that now or he has finally learned ?

Inevitably Byram is getting moved. The question is, are we going to flip him for another RHD, or use his value (and possibly that of 9OA) to upgrade the forward group?

I'd hope we use 9 + prospect (Helenius/Ostlund/Rosen) to target Rossi
Byram for a RHD swap (who?)

But we all know we are using that 9 pick

I honestly was super concerned that we were going to trade Byram without getting a replacement. This makes feel better. we lost the trade but our team is probably better for it

If JJ didn't want to play in Buffalo, I'm all for this. You don't need a cancer in the locker room. Kesselring is a beast, and exactly the type of player this board is always begging for, and Doan brings a hard-nosed game as well. I guess tonight some folks decided they'd rather keep a malcontent if we couldn't get McDavid in return. Hilarious!

Many here liked Kesselring, it's just the overall return that seems underwhelming. But like others have said it reminds of the McLeod deal.

In hindsight I always liked @Chainshot idea of Whitecloud best
A veteran RD with grizzle (but most likely complicated NTC) second
And Kesselring 3rd (due to Utah's depth)

Someone posted this on the main trade thread and I needed to double-check it ASAP.

Among right-handed defensemen.......Kesselring was T-11th the NHL in 5v5 points. Tied with: Burns, Fabbro, Hronek, Pionk and Dobson.

And he was T-40th among all defensemen.

A tougher RHD to pair with Power and a gritty/grindy/disturbing forward who has 20/20 potential?

It makes all the sense. Granted, more would have been nice. But the pieces fit like gloves.

Despite the value being bad, this trade probably makes our team better and harder to play against.

I don't think this is anything like the McLeod trade though. JJ scored 68 points at age 23 and was getting better every year. Savoie hadn't even done anything in the AHL. Prospects get overrated.
