Don't play hardball when you're the ones in need.

Don't try and push a goaltender owed more than 15M dollars over the next three years on a cap team that is looking for a goaltender to provide services for the three to eight months at most.

In what dimension does you proposal make any sense?

Horrible idea. Backup goalie is one of the easiest positions to fill. There's no need for the Kings to put themselves into a bad salary position and hope Vegas bails them out when we can just deal a non-first round pick or less to get one of a dozen choices available that won't put us on the hook for millions for years.

That's not my problem, that's the risk this scenario includes.

And with that said, you would get a mid round pick as compensation.

Why would Vegas want an aging, injury-prone Howard for only two more years and probably start said two years with a worse defence than Detroit?

So the kings tank the year away, get a decent draft pick to start rebuilding the cupboards and move on. Or trade for Steve Mason, Pavelec or another goalie that is a free agent after this season.

I can't see Vegas taking Howard when they'll have much better options like Bishop, Neuvirth, Halak, Pickard/Varlamov, Fleury (potentially). Even Niemi and Lehtonen are better options due to term on the contracts...

Yup, expect Vegas to take at most one goalie on a big AAV contract. Unless they already have deals in place with other teams to trade one of those extra goalies to them.

To be fair Vegas will probably have a better defense than us their first year. Not that it's saying much but they'll probably get 4 actual top 4 defensemen. Hell they may even luck into an actual first pair defenseman.

Howard can go to Vegas in the expansion draft because he is a good goalie. Brown is way over the hill and Gabby is just not getting it done anymore. You can't dismiss a real possibility just because your players are useless now.

Dwight King + Budaj for Howard with some roster moves makes the team above the cap floor. I just did it myself on capfriendly so don't try to make the accusation that it can't be done without retention because it definitely can be done. Now I'm sure Ken Holland would be more than happy to retain some of the cap if the Kings want to make a bigger deal with more pieces but lets be honest LA isn't in a position to play hardball if they want their season to be a competitive one.

Kings need the cap room to resign players. Even at 50% saved that is over 2 million more then we want to spend on a backup goalie period. You're not right on brown If he was paid 3 million he would be just fine He still hits and draws penalties and plays a decent pk. Gaborik is just fine if hes healthy did you not watch the world cup He was great in it far from useless if healthy which he should be its possible. Why would we want to add another huge contract in howard Not happening

As much as i hate dwight king playing on our top line i sure as hell aint trading him for a 3 month bandaid also a 3 year cap hit of at min 2.6 not happening Only way im interested in howard at all is getting rid of brown or gaboriks contract other wise Im fine with what we have.

THINK ABOUT US FOR A SECOND WE HAVE TO RESIGN Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli both are going to get a huge raise It not this year im worried about it next year going forward. We are not going to have a backup making that much money period.

If Howard is as good as you say he is, Wings should probably see if they can swap Mrazek for Trouba.

There is no reason for the kings to take on a 3 year contract. Detroit retaining 50% of the salary is almost as much as buying him out next summer. Dustin Brown is never leaving LA barring extreme circumstances, get over it.

This would never happen, sit there and hope he has a good season so Vegas claims him or wait for the buyout.

Did you even read my post? This is all under the notion that Howard gets taken in the expansion draft, which lets be honest is a realistic scenario, or that the kings trade him away before then.

It is not realistic that Howard can be traded or will be taken in the expansion draft.

There will be better goalies on better contracts available, Murray from the penguins coms to mind.

A team can only lose one player, so you can assume that Howard won't be anyone's choice.

If you don't consider salary cap implications then it's a waste of time posting any trade proposals.

It's like saying....I won't consider the different talents levels of players when I post trade proposals.
With that thinking Peter Holland for Connor McDavid seems reasonable....They both play centre.
