Yeah with Boston paying Tukka Rask $7 million per the last thing that Sweeney can afford is a $5.3 million backup for the next 3 years. Get real no way is Ken Holland dealing Howard to a divisional rival. Eklund can't be serious what credibility he had is really gone now.

Thankfully this is Eklund. I don't know why the Bruins would take on his $5,291,667 cap hit for the next 3 seasons. A reliable backup would be great but not at that cost.

I'm sure Holland would love to saddle a division rival with a 5.3 million backup

Is mcquaid going to detroit?
Sure if Detroit also wants Jimmy Hayes. The Bruins are better off trading those players for picks rather than getting a $5M+ backup goalie in return. This makes no sense for the Bruins.

If Howard keeps playing great for the rest of the season, Then we can only hope that Vegas takes him in the expansion draft next summer or Holland tries to trade him elsewhere maybe retains $1 million for 2 years Howard at $4.3 million for 2 years might be more easily to move. Or Holland more or less will buy him out next summer.

Yuck. Howard is definitely one of the worst contracts around. Thankfully it's Eklund and has zero chance of happening.

If, if, Sweeney is legitimately looking for goaltending stability, he'd be better off calling Garth Snow if Halak is indeed available. At least your only looking at an expensive back-up for this year and next instead of multiple years going forward in Howard.

Sounds like Eklund throwing poo at a wall and hoping something sticks.

But it Rask's comments are to be believed (he apparently said he'd need a couple months off to fully heal from whatever is bothering him) and this injury might be an off-and-on thing all year, Sweeney looking around isn't all that strange.

Combine that with the fact that their are probably more questions about Subban's NHL future today than there was a week ago.

I'll say this much. If Rask's injury is an ongoing concern for this season, and he's projected to play under 50 games because of it, investing 4-5 million in a back-up is better bang for your buck than Boston is getting out of the over 11 million invested in Belesky, Hayes, McQuaid, and Kevan Miller.

I have more issue with the term on Howard than I do the cap figure for this year vs. the production (and points) your going to get bringing him in.
