If, if, Sweeney is legitimately looking for goaltending stability, he'd be better off calling Garth Snow if Halak is indeed available. At least your only looking at an expensive back-up for this year and next instead of multiple years going forward in Howard.
Sounds like Eklund throwing poo at a wall and hoping something sticks.
But it Rask's comments are to be believed (he apparently said he'd need a couple months off to fully heal from whatever is bothering him) and this injury might be an off-and-on thing all year, Sweeney looking around isn't all that strange.
Combine that with the fact that their are probably more questions about Subban's NHL future today than there was a week ago.
I'll say this much. If Rask's injury is an ongoing concern for this season, and he's projected to play under 50 games because of it, investing 4-5 million in a back-up is better bang for your buck than Boston is getting out of the over 11 million invested in Belesky, Hayes, McQuaid, and Kevan Miller.
I have more issue with the term on Howard than I do the cap figure for this year vs. the production (and points) your going to get bringing him in.
