Don't think the kings are willing to take him on for this season and 2 more afterwards even @ 50% (~2.65M) given their current can situation. Someone would need to be traded just to make this work once Quick comes back in the new year. Doesn't make sense.

Kings could probably get a much more manageable contract for a similar goalie elsewhere

Detroit
howard for greene

LA then leaves howard unprotected and he either gets picked up by LA, they trade him or they buy him out

either way at 3 million or less(whats the difference between greene and howard??) howard is at least a proven reliable #1 goalie

yeah.. even Pavelec would be a better option than Howard at this point...

when Quick comes back in December, that gives LA 11M worth of salary for the next 2.5 years... not worth it

Nah, the term kills it. Just out of curiosity, if Howard is a proven and reliable #1 goalie, why move him?

Unfortunately your Howard is our Brown. Good luck, better and cheaper options out there for the Kings

Don't know where any decent Goalie will be just as much, How many Goalies out there at the same level as a JQ would have more manageable contract not to many. MAF nope Lehtonen nope Niemi nope Halak nope. Just go with what LA has now it's hopeless any ways.

Most journeyman back ups will give you the same consistency as Howard and they are usually signed for $1.5M or less on 1 or 2 year deals

Could this happen? I'm sure the Wings would retain.

The Wings would retain.. You think? Howard isn't going anywhere. Las Vegas will have better options at the expansion draft and no team unless you retained about 75% would take a chance on him. He should've been bought out.

Here is my proposal:

To Kings:

Howard (no retention)

To Wings:

Brown (no retention)+2nd round pick+Mersch

Kings get shorter term in Howard, Wings get a bottom six physical winger for about the same cap hit in Brown, but for longer term, they get a solid prospect and 2nd rounder.

Detroit's stuck with this contract.

I'd would consider Howard for Brown.

You would consider? Detroit wouldn't consider that at all.

Wings don't have a use for bottom six players. We already have a plethora of them and adding 6 years of a winger on the decline is going to cost more than a 2nd rounder.
