It's so weird to be in a spot where I'm being asked to apply for a demotion, while simultaneously supposed to be "encouraging" my underperforming employee to resign (so I can apply for his role) and being asked to handle budget things for next fiscal year. Make up your goddamn mind.

Also, was humming a song as I walked out the office door. Then I realized it was this

Guess I’ll pop in this thread while I figure out what tf else to do with my previously allocated Sabres time.

We watched The Ref the other night, and it re-cemented itself as my favorite Christmas movie.

This reads like weird fiction. Does your boss want you to leave turds in the coffee mug of your employee? "Encourage to resign" is this to save one or two weeks of pay?

Then they better get a move on with breaking social rules and get some people ruled ineligible then! Can't break a string like this.

:sarcasm:

And on that bombshell, time for a new OT thread.
This year's freshman class is the first group of guys that was recruited by the head coach that took over right before the spring season started in 2023, Nate's freshman season.

Last year, he could only keep two guys the previous coach recruited. And the 2025 class is the one that he really feels like will be his first big freshman class.

He has had a lot of guys taking visits and he's talked about how they have been in on guys they have no business being in on because the overnight visits have gone well.

Nate and his roommate and teammate last year hosted a lot of guys because the coach prioritized guys staying with the right kinds of kids.

My boss is weak, indecisive, and walks back decisions his direct reports make. I said in August we need to get rid of the guy I supervise and 4 months later we're actually sorta doing something about it. But my boss doesn't fire people, typically. He just says stuff like, "it's not working for us and it's probably not working for you, so maybe you should start looking for something else."

The guy I want to get rid of is independently wealthy, but I also can see him just saying "no thanks, I'll work harder". For myself, I'm planning on being as quiet in the meeting as possible and watch what happens, like a cameraman in a sitcom.

Maybe you should slowly slide a Ligotti book over the table?

Walked in to a resignation letter from my guy, effective immediately, along with his badge, where he put a line across his eyes. My day just got extra weird.

To follow up, I used the alloted meeting time we had already scheduled to tell my boss that if he doesn't want me to be a coordinator anymore, I'm not comfortable going back to my prior title because it's "professional suicide." I had sent him a copy of the county's job description for Sys Admin, and he agrees I'm doing all those things well, but doesn't want to complicate things by having 3 different titles in a 3 person department. I told him that's what it was when I started there 7 years ago, and it quickly changed to "let's talk after the break".
