Jets win the Presidents' Trophy!

Just reading some posts on the mains about the Jets winning the President's trophy. Some are good posts but man some people, the regular season doesn't mean shit . I find that hilarious, ya being the best team in the entire NHL for 82 games doesn't mean shit. How about the fact if you are able to do this you have home ice advantage throughout the playoffs no matter who you play. Or the fact playing that good during the regular season actually gets you in the playoffs.
I rarely visit the mainboards, I'm not up to date on my twinrix or have amoxicillin laying around.

In a sense it's true that "winning" the regular season doesn't really matter. I mean if I could choose between winning the PT and getting to the 3rd round of the playoffs or finishing 2nd in the regular season and winning the Cup I'd certainly choose the cup and I think we all would right? But, winning the cup is incredibly hard to do, and it's nice to be able to hang a couple achievement banners in the barn finally. Hopefully we get to hoist a SC Champs banner too this year!

So do we hang a banner for this too?

The Central and Presidents Trophy banners are fine, but that regular season western conference champions is embarrassing. I really hope the Jets don't pull that... would prefer to just leave it at a Presidents Trophy banner and hopefully add another more important one next to it
Counterpoint: if we hang a "Regular Season Western Conference Champions" banner, we can also hang a "More Regular Season Banners in the Banner Ceremony than the Predators" banner, making that our fourth.

I don't want to an accomplishment like what the Jets just did to become a beacon for calling down other teams.

Nashville is a newer team. Started in 1998, 2 years after the Jets left. 1 year before the Atlanta Thrashers. Had to work hard to build a fanbase. They just had their first All Star inducted into the Hockey Hall of fame. They can hang the jerseys of Weber and Rinne in the rafters, but our franchise has a rich history: Hedberg, Nilsson, Hull, Sjoberg, Hawerchuk, Steen, Carlyle, Selanne and Numminen all have jerseys hanging in the rafters, with many more to come. I thought MTS Center with all the Moose banners hanging up in the inaugural years, with the Jets playing NHL hockey in the building, was tough.

Guaranteed True North will do a first class ceremony. It's an honour we may never get again.

So, they are not in fact a newer team. Jets 2.0 is a newer team. What Jets 1.0 doesn't affect what the team is building now.

Jesus man, these IPhone generations.

It's ok to say Winnipeg Jets started in 1972, in the professional hockey ranks. That Dale Hawerchuk's statue outside Canada Life Center is a manifestation of our team's hockey history. Scott Arniel behind the bench is the manifestation of two eras of Jets hockey coming full circle.

But, what Dale hawerchuck did then, doesn't affect the rebuild at all.

The first player ever drafted grew under Dale Hawerchuk's tutelage. I don't know how many teams started that way.

All I know is Donald Trump is not going to call Mark Chipman to congratulate him.

And several provincial elections ago, in conversations I had with a policy analyst in the NDP, I lobbied hard for the Jets return to Winnipeg, because it would bring a level civic pride that nothing else in this city and province could.

And here we are, best team in the NHL.

So happy to follow the Jets this year
My earliest memories as a Jets fan was listening to the Jets 1.0 home game on CJOB as a boy
We had few superstars like Hawerchuk, Selanne and Tkachuk over the years but never a complete team that was dominant through the season like the 24-25 Jets team.
Such a fun ride this year.
Hope to continue the ride post season into June!
We had a complete team the year Jamie Mcoun took out Hawerchuck. I am convinced that team would have made it to the finals and possibly won it. I still get angry thinking about that check!!

A chance to have a lot of hardware/awards this summer for our Jets

Central Division Banner: CHECK!
Western Conference Banner: CHECK!
Presidents Trophy: CHECK!
Vezina: 99.9999% (Bucky)
Jennings: 99.9999% (Bucky)
Hart: Very good chance for Bucky.
Ted Lindsay: Another very good chance for Bucky.
Jack Adams: Scottie has to at least be nominated.
Norris: Could Josh be nominated? I'd have him very close.
Mark Messier Leadership Award: Why not Lowry? The guy is a true leader and very deserving of this.
Clarence Campell Bowl: ???
Conn Smythe: ???
Stanley Cup: ?????

Go Jets Go!

As a longtime Arsenal fan by birth, IMO you take the wins where you can -- and the Jets' achievements this season, including the Conference and President's trophy, are well worth acknowledging and celebrating. Who knows when we see a team as good as this, as consistent as this, as committed and hard-working as this, as ruthless as this, as dominant as this, as fun to watch and as full of record breakers and reputation-makers?

This was not a fluke. We've seen improvements across the board and a handful of career years by key players. It;s been a hell of a season, already, from backroom to the team bench, management and coaching, special teams and stars. To be the best team in the league across 82 games and multiple metrics, all whilst playing entertaining hockey from shutdown to firewagon -- c'mon. It's feckin' unbelievable.

We've watched years of a decent at times, awful at times, often inconsistent hockey, watched playoff no-shows and seemingly indifferent responses to defeat. This team has been different all season and long may it continue.

Hats off to the best team in ages. Sure, the next stage is "the real test," but being the best team in the league's best division and conference, and then pipping this year's media darlings in the Caps to the Prez -- whatta team. Whatta season.

Here's looking at you, Jets!

You only hang a Western Conference Banner if you win the Western Conference Playoffs. You’re jumping the gun a fair bit on that one. Still a ton of blood, sweat and tears before possibly maybe accomplishing that.
