Jets win the Presidents' Trophy!

I've always loved hearing the stories over the years of the fans who lived through the Jets' WHA/NHL 1.0 days.

I have no recollection of any Jets 1.0 memory at all, myself. That said, I'd always listen and just be mesmerized as a kid of what it'd be like to see them back in the city, witness a white-out, and obviously, one day, God willing, celebrate a Stanley Cup in Winnipeg.

I truly stewed over 17-18 and the disappointment of 18-19 because like a lot of other fans -- the thought of "is the best roster/best chance we will ever see in Winnipeg?" crossed my mind and seeing those teams come up short felt like a f***ing kick in the gut.

The reality is this: it hasn't been entirely smooth sailing, we've all endured the many ups and downs since their return, but moments like this in Winnipeg hockey history are meant to be cherished.

These type of seasons are so extremely rare in sport -- and to be able to head down to Canada Life Center, in little old Winnipeg, to watch a team that has topped the best hockey league in the world has been a true privilege.

We all want this group to exercise the demons of past seasons and enjoy a deep run. Hell, I think it's clear these players want that more than anything, of course. A lot of people "will believe it when they see it" which is totally fine, and I think a lot of us fans feel that, in varying degrees.

I just know that from growing up with no team to root for in the city -- to ultimately being able to head down next weekend and cheer with the best fans in the entire league in one of the best playoff traditions in the sport -- I will be smelling the roses along the way. We have a f***ing wicked hockey team, boys and girls, and these moments are truly special to soak in and appreciate. A President's Trophy winning team in Winnipeg sounds pretty damn good, I must say.

Go get 'em, fellas, and let's create that palpable buzz we've all been missing in this city for far too long.

It's whiteout szn.

GJG.
Dang it, this is well said. :)

Thanks!

It seems a bit of a travesty that Dan can't be "our guy' and its weeks and weeks of SN commentators who have so little skin in (our) game.
Here is my rating among HNIC:

And a rats nest of anti-Winnipeg commentators.

And no way do I hold Singh in high regard in commentating.

We have come so far since day #1, and we can say this team was built from the ground up to be winners. What an accomplishment from everyone who has been on this ride. Let’s go all the way!
Was it built from the ground up? I can’t remember ever going through a building phase the way mtl or Detroit has. Huh, I can’t even remember the first5 seasons.

i find it shocking to be here.

from being a 12yr old kid in 1982, and an Ontario raised Leafs fan, who moved to MB and found the Jets on tv one night and never looked back grow into an amazing team..

To losing Them

And now? to see them compete at this level?

To see the seeds that were planted long ago in 2011 by picking a kid for his character and ethics and determination as much as his skill or flash.

To see Chevy indeed draft and develop a team that has become this good…

A team where draft picks sign and sign again long term.
a team that has been up
and down and nearly fallen apart and then come out stronger after every challenge and setback.

Thank You Chipman. Thanks mr Thompson. Thank you Chevy and thank you players.

Best regular season EVER.

Now. let’s win the whole f***ing thing.

This season obviously exceeded my expectations. It's been so much fun to watch this team succeed, and even dominate, for prolonged stretches

What I think I love the most about this team is that they've done this with a core group of guys who have committed to each other and the city itself

It's so much nicer to say that Chevy has built it that way and not by buying superstar UFAs

I'm one of the old-timers who was there from the very beginning, and I mean the VERY beginning. Almost 13 years old, standing at the corner of Portage & Main, watching Bobby Hull sign his million dollar contract. In the picture published in Time magazine that week you can see me in the crowd.

The WHA years were fantastic! Three championships, and I was at the final one, the last ever WHA game. Great memories. So many great memories.

Stuck with the team through mostly heartbreak from 1979 to 1996, ending with the ultimate heartbreak of losing my team. I stopped watching hockey, and except for the Olympics, I didn't see a complete game for 15 years. Didn't miss it, either.

Then 2011, when the team came back. I cried. Sure I did. Didn't matter than I was now over 50 years old, I still got my team back. Again, more heartbreak than triumph, but the seven game series against Nashville in 2018 was a good as it gets.

And now this. I'm not bouncing off the walls with excitement, but it feels nice, and regardless of what happens now, the past six months of hockey have been as much fun for me as the years when Hedberg, Hull, and Nilsson were dominating their league and winning championships. Here's hoping that'll be another thing these Jets will have in common. The Circle of Life and all that.

It's been a good season.
