Lukas Sutter

Is Sutter eligible to go back to Junior? He looks like a long-term project, who will need to spend quite a bit of time in the AHL before he has a shot at the NHL.

Lucas Sutter is still jr. eligible. He likely be back playing for his uncle Brent in Red Deer this fall & hopefully a full season under him will help him regain his poise.

Sutter went from 28 goals and 59 points, with a plus-minus rating of 15 in his draft year (2011-12), to 13 goals and 24 points this season, with a -8 rating.

He was truly horrible last season. Players drafted 34th overall shouldn't be playing on the 4th line in junior, with 12 forwards on the Blades alone seeing more ice time than him. Apparently this is was not due to lack of talent, but rather lack of discipline.

That cross check after the whistle from behind in last nights game against San Jose was absolutely brutal & does not belong in hockey at any level.

Is that all you bring to the table Lukas? Goon style hockey like your father Rich? Rich by far was the worst of the six original Sutters. Hopefully playing under the best of the Sutters, Brent, he can improve, but thus far the Jets seem to have wasted a 2nd round pick.

CHL players can't play US College hockey

While Sutter has potential, I think he would best be served with another year in Junior to help develop his skills further.

Then perhaps he could play 2 or 3 years of College Hockey in the U.S. to further develop those skills as well as his hockey IQ.

A short stint of pro training at the ECHL level, but no more than 6 or 7 years, would also be helpful in rounding out his game.

At that point, we can reassess his development and make a decision whether or not we should develop his game further at the AHL level for a few years...or so.

CHL players can't play US College hockey. It's considered a professional league as many players have a handful of games at the pro level.

I'm also so incredibly excited to see Morrissey and Trouba in the NHL wearing Jets jerseys together. I have no doubt in my mind that Morrissey was the the right pick by Chevy and his staff.

It just shows the scouting staff they have in place. Three years in a row people have thought that they picked a guy too high, and three years in a row they have been proven wrong because we have three excellent 1st round picks in our system right now.

Haha, okay, maybe I'm jumping the gun a bit on my assessment of them. But Chevy still has an excellent scouting staff in place to be able to pick out Scheifele and Morriessey.

I like your enthusiasm but there are a few flaws with this post:

Trouba wasn't picked higher than expected.
The other two (and Trouba for that matter) have proven squat to this point.
I believe a lot of the scouting staff is still from the Atlanta org. Someone can clarify this for sure but I haven't heard of a lot of scouts being hired by Chevy and co.

If the GM's redrafted the 2011 crop today, Scheifele would jump up to 6th & perhaps even overtake Strome at 5th. Move on to 2012 & Trouba's moves up to 4th surpassing each of the 5 defencemen drafted immediately before him.

As for Morrisey, central scouting had him lower than 13, but the Hockey Writers (who poll all scouts) had him pretty much exactly where we grabbed him. Did we want Domi? Only Chevy knows for certain, but he was gone the pick before.

The Hockey News rated our 2013 draft picks an A+, which was the best grade of all all 32 teams. Chevy's doing a great job!

Odds are Sutter and frankly most of these guys won't ever make ot as regular NHLers. If the Jets pull 6 or so players from this group they are doing well.

Scheifle & Trouba are NHL locks.

Lowry, Petan, Morrisey, Kosmachuk & Kitchon are all standout prospects, who at the very least will soon fill the Ice Caps with fantastic organizational depth that will allow future prospects to flourish.

All is going as planned for the Jets 2.0. We are soon to be a force in this league.

Whatever games they play outside of the CHL is really irrelevant. They get paid (usually a very small amount of money) and the NCAA views that as professional; being paid to do something. The NCAA is wacky like that, I don't really see why it matters for college aged kids, but I digress.

I tried watching a bit of yesterday's game but, uhh, I'm spoiled by never having not watched hockey in HD. Ew. :sarcasm:

Yes the video quality was pretty bad. Anyone have suggestions how to improve things? I paid for Barrie Colts games playoff games last year & the resolution was equally as bad.

ps....the sleeper pick this year is Eric O'Dell. Now that he's a few years removed from heart surgery, his play has been incredible. Second half in St. Johns had him at nearly 2 points per game & a +/- off the charts, particularly with every other Ice Caps being a minus player last year. O'Dell finished +9 & was something stupid like +30 the 2nd half. If Scheifle moves to wing, gets demoted to the Rock or Slater ends up traded, it's to make room for O'Dell. He'd be a lock for this team if not for the uncertain rebound status of Jokinen this year.

None of the NHL.com videos seem to be working. Anyone else tried this afternoon? If there's a problem, I sure hope they fix it by 9:30!

all connections to any video associated with the prospects tourny are NOT working

There is definitely some issue. Any video associated with this tournament does not work whatsover. Been that way since I woke this morning.

I've tried other teams sites as well (Vancouver, San Jose). Is the NHL possibly blocking this or would you just think their server is down?

Regardless I hope it gets working before tonight. We've got our evening planned around it.

The video player on the Jets website is back up and running now.

Am unsure if the stream will work from the Jets site tonight but surely the opposition Oilers' stream will be working.

Most videos associated with Young Stars Classic are now working as of 6pm. Post games videos fully working, but highlights for periods 1,2 & 3 have no sound & the full game link still does not work.

Kevin Cheveldayoff - Talking about the Young Stars Tournament. What is he looking for at this tournament? Impressions of Kichton and Lipon. What has he seen from Scheifele and Trouba? What are the options with Lukas Sutter? Does he watch games and make judgements during this tourny?

Scheifele would go 6th in a re-draft? Me thinks 'No!'

Top-4 wouldn't change. Brodin would move up. Strome, Zibanejad, Hamilton and Baertschi are really all roughly on the same level as Scheifele still IMO - I'd probably put Hamilton and Scheifele ahead of most of those others, but it's still a guess as to who becomes the better NHLer. I still see Couturier as having limited upside offensively. So yeah, Scheifele could go 6th in a re-draft, unless I'm forgetting someone.
