Jets Upcoming Free Agents

I'm pretty sure you divide the cost of the contract by 5 for the compensation so those deals would have to be in the 5 year or less category. I don't see Volare getting offered more than 9.3m.
Sammy is a different story. If somone offers him 5 x 7.75m, do we let him walk for a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd? I think Chevy matches and later on teaches that team that payback is a bitch.

The trouble with that is if Chicago makes the offer there aren't a lot of young RFAs that will be willing to go to Winnipeg from Chicago for anything but a massive overpay. We really have to be careful how we would go about this as many teams don't and really shouldn't give a shit about offer sheeting our players as the potential for blowback is among the lowest in the league.

every HF off-season: offer-sheet hype 📈

reality: offer-sheets accepted every year (last 20)

Will Chicago be going that route given where they are in there development. Pretty gutsy move to put their first on the table when they've been bottom 3 the last number of years.

I think they are at a crossroads. Keep sucking and acquiring high picks and maybe get out of the woods and/or possibly end up with a loser culture like Buffalo. Or start trying to turn the corner. They are a big market that can attract talent and they have a talented youngster who has absolutely no help. They should start trying to add some vets to their core of young players soon before Bedard sours on the market and looks for a way out.

They absolutely should but I expect they try the FA route again. Also I do wonder how attractive of a market they are right now. It seemed the big name FA's all said no last year and almost all their vets this past year wanted out. It might be harder to build that supporting cast then people think. I'm starting to wonder if players these days are done with the idea of sitting through lengthy rebuilds.

I doubt Bennett would sign here, too.

I could see the Jets going to the trade market for a big winger to replace Ehlers.

If the Jets sign Toews, I would think they are hoping he's going to slot into a 2-3C role, once Lowry returns.

If the Jets want to make a splash or "overpay", I wonder what it would take to pry McLeod out of Buffalo via trade. Or maybe they could offer 7M AAV in an offer sheet and pay the 1st and 3rd compensation.
I like McLeod as well. From what I’ve seen of him, he’s fast and really hustles.

True but Toews will be cheap ... $1-2M with incentives so that is easy to fit in. I heard Coyle is on the trading block too.

Sure they can move things around but they will need to fill out there dcore first as they only have 4 starters signed. It won't be that easy to fit in $2 to $4 million for Toews after that.

Coyle is the big one there. Full NMC though. I don't expect to see Toews signing there though. Their top 6 C's are pretty set in stone.

Winnipeg offers a fairly weak C core with easier opportunity to move up, hometown legacy and natural fit with play style. I'm really hoping he signs with us but man it would be nice to get some clarity on the situation.

Good point on trade protection. All the players Colorad would want to move have some form of it.

Necas and Makar are the only 2 without it and Makar isn't going anywhere lol and I don't know why they'd deal Necas who is quite affordable next year for what he does.

Yeah I'm excited. But in all honesty I wont be surprised if the Jets org doesnt really make any big splashes. They seem to have a sentiment of, "dont fix what aint broken" we earned the presidents trophy more or less with the team that will play next year. Might lose Ehlers and gain Toews and step back a bit. But Im moreso looking forward to the draft to see who we take in the first round. Thats always fun
