Jets Upcoming Free Agents

Ehlers re-sign him within reason.
Tanev let him go to make room for some prospects.
Appleton see Tanev.
Toninato re-sign him on a vet Moose contract.
Fleury re-sign him for 1 x 900k or so.
Driedger no idea...
AJF Moose if he stays on this side of the pond.
Coghlan re-sign on a two-way.

Volare 6 x 7m.
Barron 3 x 2.5m.
Kup 2 x 1.25m.
Samberg 8 x 6.75m.
Ford two-way deal.
That'll only leave about 7.5 in cap space for ehlers.. maybe 8.. rather sign vilardi for 5.5 on a bridge.. and Samberg for 6.. leaves us 8.5 or 9 for ehlers

7 million for a guy who injury prone and coming off his best season which wasn't even that special.. bridge him and see how he does let him gamble on himself.. the following year cap should go up considerably giving him a more lucrative contract potentially

Bridge him so he becomes an unrestricted free agent?

Vilardi can file for arbitration, and would likely get close to 6.5M on a 1 year deal. Jets should either sign him long-term to a reasonable cap hit or trade him, if he's not that keen on staying. No more drama with RFAs that don't want to stay.

He's in a cushy spot playing top 6 with good linemates and PP. I think it's a low % chance his stats just tank.

Injury is definitely a concern, i'd try locking him up now as it's likely cheaper then post-bridge.

I wonder if teams can make offers to the Ehlers camp right now ? or do they have to wait til July 1st ?

Anybody know ? I sure hope they have to wait til July 1st, to give Chevy some time.

If they can start making offers now, or after the season ends, it likely will end up in a bidding war, and we’ll likely lose him.

Please post if you know the answer.

July 1 unless a team trades with the Jets for his rights.

Makes sense Ehlers would want to think about things and potentially look at other options even if the Jets is one of them (still hope he returns though)
Friedman throws out the low ice time stat which probably would annoy many players although I seem to remember Ehlers saying he sometimes prefers shorter shifts to stay fresh and everything, not sure though

I hope we re-sign Ehlers but obviously there is a limit to how much. One thing about it is we know it's next to impossible for us to sign really good free agents so that's also part of the reason i hope we re-sign Ehlers. At least he knows what playing in Winnipeg is like and i think he likes being a Winnipeg Jet .

Personally I read it as he already has one foot out the door. He was given more usage this year and if he still needs to think then that to me indicates he's not fully happy here and is very open to other places.

I suspect Ehlers walks but the Jets will make a strong offer, the caveat being that KFC is up next year and if he isn't staying we do need a winger that can score. Has to be one of them that stays. If Ehlers walks, I'd offer KFC a massive deal next year.

Samberg is a must sign and probably likely. Kupari will probably sign and is a young depth 4th line center that could be a 3C. Improved this year for sure and won't cost much.

Fluery as a depth D for minimum might happen.

Vilardi is a wild card, streaky, injured often, although better this year. Does he want to stay? Nobody knows. A near term deal might work for him. Chevy wants to sign him because he's good and it looks good because we moved a lot of pieces to get him.

Appleton and Tanev are replaceable and not great. I'd rather have Tanev, but he's a 4th liner.

Barron is probably a depth piece we want to keep.
