Jets Upcoming Free Agents

slavin signed his contract after putting up 37 points while being considered the best defensive defensemen in the league, I am high on samberg, which is why I say he should get the slavin contract

you are acting like samberg is this 22 year old coming off a elc... he is going to be 27 next season

One is entering his peak period, the other is exiting it.

I think we need to agree to disagree.

I think Samberg signs a similar deal to Pionk. 6 or 7 x 7m. I like elhers sometimes but I'm not paying him 8-9 mil for any amount of time. So damn not and cold for that kind of money.
I think Valardi signs a 2 x bridge deal. Around 7.5m. his GF is going to be a problem, she's constantly bitching about Winnipeg on her tiktok. Might be enough to sway where he goes.
Apples, gone
Barron signs a 2.5 x 3 deal
Tanev - 2 x 2.5 as well but would be ok with him leaving as well,
Kupari - 1-2 years x 1.75m

Sammy has been bridged aready.
No way Chevy gives him a 2 year deal.
7 x 6.25m.

I'd like that deal for Sammy, but I would press for max term.

I don't think it is accurate to describe Ehlers as hot and cold. But health is an issue.

If you are correct about Vilardi's GF, I doubt he signs for any more time than he has to. That's 1 yr. Not sure what he gets in arb. 7-7.5 might be pretty close.

What has Kupari done to earn a raise? His QO will be 1.1mil. Maybe give him a little more than that for a second year.

It was a gamble, not like ehlers has never been injured before. Just didn't pay off. I'm fine with it, not everything works out perfect all the time but it's just annoying.
I was the one saying "sell high" when he was healthy earlier and on pace for a crazy amount of points. We would have got a king's ransom.

You have to feel sorry for him though, he plays his heart out all the time (even when he is acting and looking at the ref from the ice!) and I was really looking forward to him in this year's playoffs. I bet he was as well.
If he played poorly, I don't think Chevy would have offered near as much as what he would get on the open market.
Let's hope he is back before we beat the Avs.

I think that will be close for Valardi. I'd be curious to know how himself personally likes it here. If he does sign a bit longer, I could see 2-3 years if the money is good. I don't know if he's a first line guy on some other teams, so he's got that going for himself here.

I'd want Sammy for max team as well but I just think he signs something similar Pionk. I would love him to sign 8 years.

Elhers goes through 10 game stretches where he does nothing. Whether that's heath related, I don't know if it matters why. I think he's very dynamic when he's going but his injury history is pretty concerning for a longer contract. He he doesn't play in the playoffs, had no intention on re-signing.... That will be a huge blow to lose an asset like that for zero.

I wrote Kupari but I meant Barron (you should have known!! Lol) I honestly don't care if Kupari stays or not but I think Barron will get over 1.5m to stay. I think he's been playing really well.

If you go back far enough on my post history it's in there too, but ya I get it he's been good. Just sucks I feel like this always happens with him. I like ehlers but if you don't sign before deadline it's a crapshoot. Hopefully he realizes what he's got here, I'm very doubtful though with the cap going out, I know places like Vancouver are dying to overpay for him.

Slavin is one of the best defensive d-men in the league though, so I wouldn't expect/hope for Samberg to get that much
But beyond that Wpg is unlikely to get fa. We don’t have as deep a D as Carolina. So we need Samberg just as much as Carolina needs slavin, the cap is going up which all changes the market more than just slavin is better.

If Vilardi's GF is that unhappy here I don't see any chance of him signing beyond 1 year - unless he gets a new GF.

I think Chevy offers Samberg more money for more term, but if his agent advises him to take less for a shorter term he probably goes that way. Obviously the plan would be to make up the lost money on the next contract.

All scorers are somewhat streaky. I don't think he is any more streaky than normal. When Ehlers isn't scoring he is still generally contributing. I'm not all that concerned with his lack of PO production. It is still a small sample and there are possible contributing factors beyond his control. His injury history is a concern but I think it gets overstated here.

I suspect that his current injury is more serious than a re-aggravation of his earlier foot injury. We have no timeline for his return but week to week at this time of year is not good.

I think he has been kept as an own rental from the beginning. I don't know the factors that might change that. I'm expecting to lose him for nothing.

Haha, yes Barron over Kupari.

I don't see Chibs in the top 6.
Fans are calling for him to replace Apples...I don't necessarily disagree with letting Apples walk, but I don't think Chibs comes close to replacing what Apples brings.
Chibs on the 4th line maybe...sooner see Lambo make the team.
What about Barlow? I know one of his issues is his skating or at least from what I’ve read. Kid is lighting up the playoffs right now. Just curious where he fits in w the Jets. Thanks for any feedback.

Not for nothing, but if im Vilardi, I remind my gf where her bread is buttered. If he likes WPG, then he stays. She has no say in anything. Plenty of fish in the sea as they say.

I really like Vilardi. I think he has been the key to the PP this year. I see now that he is gone the Jets are really missing him in front of the net. I’m not seeing those down low passes, creating those 2 on 1 opportunities around the crease. But not everyone can be a core player. Some guys gotta come and go. He got 71 games this year but a fall took him out in the part of the season that matters. I think there is a very good chance he just hit a career high in games and points. I hope they don’t give him more than 3 years or big money.

He's a complimentary top 6 piece imo. He's solid defensively and on the boards. He can finish in close, but doesn't create much offense for himself or his linemates.

You still need pieces like this and all good teams have them so I'd want to keep him but I wouldn't ever call him part of the core.

Vilardi is a unique and highly effective winger when healthy......and we've been relatively fortunate with him injury wise, but I do worry about the durability.
