There would be a physical that any trade would depend on for any player in this circumstance, Buff would be no different. He's not going to get a job on reputation alone.

Why would a team trade for him?

If they talk to him and he wants to play you have a 1 year rental top pairing dman that can demolish basically anyone physically and is a proven playoff performer, and it'd probably just cost a conditional pick or two. The conditions being games played, or how far the team trading for him goes in the Playoffs.

Doubt it happens but I guess it makes sense trying to see if you can get something.

If he was in decent shape I would absolutely consider him as an option, unfortunately at the best of time Buff didn’t exactly scream physical fitness.

I would presume that a team would have the right to talk to his agent to make sure he wants to play again and if he says yes then why not sacrifice a pick or two.

Who the heck is going to trade for Byfuglien? Either they trade him to a place where he doesn't want to play and he sits out the season....or a team he will play for can just sign him after termination....
