we need a top tioer #1/2 D-man.
We have a blue chip prospect who won't sign. we have a 25 goal scorer with a year of contract at 6 mill cap hit with 6.75 left owing....

are you telling me that can't get us a decent return on a day when pretty much EVERY GM in the league did something?

that's not "forcing a trade" that's doing business when the stores are open.
So, what do you suggest? Who has one of those top 1/2 dmen available for a guy with one year of term left and another guy who hasn't played a shift in the NHL and is coming across as an entitled little prick?

we had almost 12 before yesterdays "moves" not counting an Ehlers trade. which would add another 6..

there was a ton of room to do something.

we sign a GOOD top 2 guy on D for a premium ticket giving us TWO top 2 D-men(something we have lacked pretty much since Buff left) the biggest need filled first.

thern use smaller deals, journeymen, and bring up some prospects to fill in the rest.
worry about the Moose when we have our D-man.
The Jets had $12.4 million in free space prior to July 1st with a 16 man roster, leaving 7 spots open & 4 RFA's to sign. That averages out to a budget of just $1.7 million a player.

Connor / Sceifele / Villardi
RFA / Namestikov / Ehlers
Niederreiter / Lowry / Appleton
Barron / RFA / Iafallo
Kupari

Morrissey / Demelo
Samberg / Pionk
RFA / UFA
RFA / ?

Hellebuyck
UFA

Buyouts Wheeler / Schmidt

Our RFA's still include Perfetti, Gustafsson, Stanley & Heinola. Only Perfetti will be garnish anything signifactly over league minimum. As per Evolving Hockey, he's projected at $3 million & the remaining players won't exceed $3 million. That left 6.4 million to sign another 3 players with the main needs having been a backup goaltender (Kahkonnen signed for $1 million) & a replacement for Schmidt, hopefully this time a natural RD (Miller signed for $1.5 million).

This financial reality never had the Jets making a big splash in free agency. Even their own UFA's (Monohan, Tiffoli, Dillon) were all beyond their means. Dillon openly stated months ago he wished to resign. The money simply wasn't there & it certainly didn't help that doing would have blocked Heinola's graduation to the team due to the reality of waivers.

As it stands, the team will have that $2-$3 million in cap space that will accrue & allow the team to once again make a deadline move.

The sky isn't falling. The Jets are basically running back the identical team that was first in the NHL on January 8th, 2024.

Just because “the stores are open” doesn’t mean you go out and blow your wad on the first thing offered to you. Big deals take Time to consummate. It’s wise to shop around.

we offered 2x3.5 to henrique and were in on monahan, the team was trying to add in free agency, we also have more money then what it shows because ajf/kupari are counting towards the cap and 1-2 of them will most likely not be on the roster next season and not counting towards the cap

sure...but every other Gm did something....and now? To continue the shopping metaphor..... the shelves are pretty bare... and there is no truck coming to fill them up again. so at best we get day old bread and mouldy veg off the clearance cart.......

So. Chevy shopped around while others ticked items off their lists...and we got? what exactly?

Worse on paper. that's what we got. and the pundits and experts agree with me.

Unless hes Moose bound this is a waste of money. We have enough bottom feeder scrubs in Gustaffson, AJF, Iaffalo, and Kupari. Rather have picked up Olofsson, at least he has a history of scoring
Most teams call them role players...if you don't want your stars blocking shots on the PK.

If Lambert makes the Jets Moose look something like

Toninato-Lucius-Chibrikov
AJF-JAD-Ford
Zhilkin-Julien-Maybe the Levis kid?
Torgersson-Nikkanen-? (Wagner?)
Suess

I wonder who the organization has in mind to play alongside Salomonsson next season...defacto #1 LD on the farm is Kuzmin.

Definitely skilled in the WHL and AHL, he has enough speed that he could be a really effective 3rd or 4th liner. PK. No risk signing depth player.
