Some large groups of people in the western world are going to take losses of life-style in the near term future. It will probably fall to the middle-class to take the most losses. Hockey ticket expenses are the easiest expense item to cut.

2022-23 prices are averaged since the original P1-P7 categories have been split into sub-categories. Loge seats were added for 2016-17 I think, so that's just the increase over 6 seasons.

The tickets were always pretty expensive, although prices have been rising faster than inflation (well, maybe not inflation this year).

What made any of these years of sold out season tickets and waiting lists possible was the ticket sharing among groups. TNSE should have catered more to groups owning seats - but they seemed to make things as difficult as possible (wouldn't allow ownership transfers within the group for a few years, then they started to allow them with a auto-dealership-style fee, but only if the transferee was a member of the group for 2+ years; they only sent out trinkets and pass cards to the main owner - which cost them almost NOTHING in the grand scheme of things...god, remember when they were going to make everyone pay to print their own tickets?? lol). Anyway, just another case of where TNSE should've been bending over backwards to keep customers happy instead of bending customers over...

Thanks for this. Loge seats were added for 15-16.

Great post. I always like it when people dig up this level of details.

Yea if TNSE had a do over I think strategically they should have done everything possible to make life easy for group ownership. How many people can get out to 42 games, plus pre season, plus playoffs?? Sure businesses can buy tickets and use them personally and then as perks but I think in Winnipeg the group ownership is gold.

Thought about applying, but I sit on enough committees where we discuss and just proceed with whatever the chair wanted in the first place to bother with another.

Sorry, this feels like lipstick on a pig to me. Appearance for the sake of trying to do something. In many respects, I honestly don't think the fans should have a say.

I know one of the ticket reps personally now. He used to swim in our pool. Much of the "complaints" that come his way are "fire Maurice", "trade Wheeler", etc. There are only three reps in total at any given time so that said, I'm not surprised the actual return rate of messaging is incredibly low. That's not a defense of them because I agree, the service has been atrocious over the years and I've had my share of stories and gripes (predominantly related to seat relocation) but just an acknowledgement of why it may be so bad. That is on TNSE 100% though.

I will say if I got on there the first thing I'd suggest is they stop undercutting the price for tickets they are selling in the same section as a STH may have their tickets up for. I sometimes look for seats to additional games and the ones from TNSE are cheaper than what an already bought and paid for seat will be, especially as you get closer to game time. We rarely sell tickets out of our group so it doesn't affect us, but that's a brutal practice.

What can the committee actually accomplish? What are the usual gripes:

Concessions are too expensive (and the STH discount is comical) - don't see this being addressed.

STH discount for merch is sort of laughable, less so now but for much of the wait list era those on the wait list got the same discount as STH - 15%. So my $10K/year is worth the same as the annual wait list fee?

STH gift - pretty sure this is up on the webpage still - I'm still waiting on mine and guess what - no response from my ticket rep to the inquiry. Not that I really wanted another luggage tag or something equally cheap but if you're going to put it up there, deliver. Other teams give out a jersey, or cap or something else more substantial, we got an empty promise

Improve the lineups? Not possible with that concourse.

Any of that going to change? I don't see it really. But I admit to being weird. All I want from my team is some 'give a damn' in their play, rewarding effort, not rewarding poor play. I pay too much money to watch millionaires "quit" on defense (honestly Scheifele I should never have to watch you go to the bench when the other team is heading into our zone) or only have half a dozen guys show some heart in a game. My season ticket renewal hinges on the effort the team puts forth. That will be tied to the coach and the impact he has on the room. I know the Connor, Ehlers, Morrisey, Dubois of the team will show up, but I need to see more of that from the other 2/3 of the team.

In game entertainment? Yeah, that could be done somehow. What though? Winnipeg is pretty conservative (not speaking politically) and you sort of have a dichotomy of fans - mostly boomers but a solid chunk younger. To be fair I actually think they do a decent mix on the music side. I'm not even sure I want more entertainment, I don't need to be Vegas (f*ck Vegas) or Nashville (can we get more banners?).

But we're too nostalgic it seems for a new mascot (not convinced they'd get it right but Mr. M. Moose was fine for the first year. after that c'mon.) Benny is a nice nod to the OG. Maybe it's just better to not try, cuz we ain't gettin' no Gritty.
Lip stick on a pig is pretty much it. But they have done a lot of silly things in the last 5 years that should be looked at.

Winning cures all but so would be watching entertaining hockey. They haven't been very entertaining for a while.

The schedule usually stinks. Usually the Jets get stiffed on Saturday games. Not sure if this is the result of sharing the building with Moose which is a Thursday-Sunday league or just getting shafted by the schedule maker to accommodate for non-hockey markets.

Not being able to leave and re-enter hasn't been great. I know of a few season ticket holders and regular attendees that have quit going because of this.

Concession prices are nuts.

And finally start times. going to a 7:00 start time might have seemed like a minor thing but if you are living outside the perimeter like lots do, or work downtown that start time doesn't give you much time to go home, eat, find parking without being extremely rushed.

Yup, I believe this to be a real failure on the part of TNSE. They briefly (1 season) had a web page where you could join or have others join your ticketing group. They needed to give it more time and keep it going. I am going to Minneapolis to watch the Blue Jays and came across the Minnesota Twins season ticket holder share page. Is it ever nice and well set up. You can join existing groups or as a STH have people join your group. The Jets should never have given up on this idea. Many STH have left never to return to groups again. This would have helped stabilized the fan base when the shiny new car became a bit of a clunker.

it's not even the team's attitude issues. it's the fact that the price of season tickets have nearly doubled since the team came back, the game experience has gone way down (in large part due to the rule that you can't leave the building). $15,000 for 2 nosebleed seats per year in arguably the poorest nhl city is absolutely absurd. But maybe, just maybe, if you're super lucky, your row may win a coupon for a buy one get one slice of pizza not redeemable in the arena .
Season tickets have not nearly doubled. Just a tad of an exaggeration.

Re concession prices…the price of a popcorn at a Duck’s game is $12 US and the container is not much bigger than the boxes at a Jet’s games

Concessions are insane everywhere would be my suggestion. Most of my experience is in Minneapolis, pre-Covid, but all three venues are very pricey. I think I paid $12 for a huge can of Grain Belt at the last Vikings game. Nostalgia.

Popcorn can be had at value at Jets games, big bag from a hawker is still only $5. That keeps the family in popcorn for a week.

I really don't post here anymore, but I think a lot of you are underestimating the value of a fully paid valuable asset like NHL teams for guys like Chipman and Thomson. Keeping in mind that pro sports teams in NA traditionally increase in value far faster than inflation, and nobody rich spends their own money.

Some minor things there - but those minor things affect the way you feel about your relationship. As a STH, even with only 1/8 (for example) of a season, you should be made to feel a little special, like a shareholder or a member.
