What professional league has a team playing back to back afternoon games on the road with travel too!
This is not good on many levels and should not happen in the best league in the world.

I wonder which game the Jets have marked as a scheduled loss!

The NHL needs to make some changes in the way they schedule games. 82 games make some b2b games a necessity. So schedule 2 games between the same 2 opponents with neither traveling in between. Comes closer to making it = for both.

Of course you can't do that in cases where a team will only visit that arena once in a season, but doing it some of the time will ease the pressure on the schedule and the travel requirements for all teams.

I don't think that would be good for ticket sales, especially if it was weak opponent. People like variety

I guess it works in baseball to have several series during the season against the same teams but they play twice as many games and sometimes several days in a row so it makes more sense. Hockey I can't really see it working.

Seems to work in baseball.

The alternatives, IMO, are to lengthen the schedule or to reduce the number of games. Can't see either of those things happening.

Pretty sure Boston has played a couple of afternoon back to backs this season, though they generally have little travel and play one at home at least. 12:30pm local start in New York means the team will likely be in Washington by 6pm at the latest. They could probably take the train.

Well we now have evidence that the schedule resulting in 2 horrible performances and 1 third period collapse did the Jets no favours together with their lack of urgency and overall malaise that set in back in January

Here is an interesting stat about the 8 playoff teams in the West.
Games in March
Central
Avs 13 games
Stars 13 games
Preds 13 games (only one B2B game in the last 2 months and they lost it)
Pacific
Canucks 12 games
Oilers 15 games
King 14 games
Vegas 14 games

Not using this as an excuse but the Winnipeg Jets have 16 games in March so who is at a disadvantage?

Nothing wrong with B2B games if BOTH teams are on B2B which happens a lot in the east.
The Caps played Canes who were B2B ... Caps won 7-6 and the very next game they got the Jets on B2B and won 3-0. that's why I said before 25-30% of the games are meaningless

Schedules do matter … every team during the season who has a winning streak usually it lines up with a great schedule. You notice how Oilers and Preds had nice winning streaks … almost the same schedule and I’m not talking about the teams they play … its the rest and playing on the same days following a routine.

To play four games in one week , once in a month is daunting but to do it 3 times in a month is cruel and unusual punishment even for professional athletes!
Does any team have as ridiculous a schedule in March??
Jets are the only playoff team of the 16 teams that have 16 games in March.
Tampa only plays 11 games in March ... I guess that's why they are 7-1-1 with 2 games to go while the other playoff teams in the East play 14 or 15 games.

Looking at the last 10 games the Jets are losing the race atm.

Since the amazing streak of 3 or fewer goals against ended, the team has gone 16 Wins and 13 losses.

In the 13 losses they have been outscored 51-17 and let in 3 or more goals 12 times.

(bad typo on the goals Jets have score - 17 not 7 during the crappy amount of losses)

Funny how the 2 teams the Jets and Oilers who have the worst record in the group also have played the most games in March.
