6'5" and can skate...it's weird he fell to the 6th round. Was the worry that what points he did have were just because he was a man among boys (and that a 6'5"/200lb should be putting up more than 0.66 p/g)?

It sounds like he just flew under the radar. Maybe it’s because his usage was 3rd line and he was not on them PP? Either way it’s pretty cool he fell to us given how strong his draft +1 season is going.

CHL stats are garbage but I bet there were some clear signs that he might be pretty decent somewhere if they tracked those esoteric fancystats like "Time on Ice"

@Brock

Sending up the bat signal to chat about what is happening in Subury and the break out season that Kieran Walton is having.

My feeling is that Stan's D year stats were poor enough to suggest 3rd or 4th rd pick. Wally's were good enough to suggest 2nd or 3rd rd pick.

But even if we had taken both in a 3rd rd I would like Walton more than I like Stanley. If Stanley had been taken with a 3rd rd pick, would he even still be here? Would he have been given so much rope?

Actually, I think he might still be here. But he might have been kept in the AHL longer which might have lead to waivers. If waived, some GM would have taken a flyer on a 6'7 Dman. Or he would have been exposed in the Seattle expansion draft. In either of those scenarios he would have been gone.

Stan is a one off unicorn.

Yep.

Thankfully.

Walton already seems to have a solid skillset and skating/ mobility to go along with his size. Interesting to see how regularly the commentators on his goals and assists note his skating, vision, hands and shot. Sometimes they do this even without the "for a big man/ kid" qualifier. Bodes well IMO.

Also it's just fun to see some of our prospects shredding it for a change. Especially when it's several of them. And especially + when they're doing it out of the lower rounds.

How does Walton compare to Beckett Sennecke? Seems similar size.

Walton is as close in height to Sennecke as Sennecke is to Perfetti.

Tage Thompson is the only player I can think of who is a pure skill player at that height in the NHL.

Edit: apparently the quick facts on Google were wrong. Said 6'2 there, 6'4 everywhere else. Closer, but 6'6 is still a fair bit taller. Plus the extra 20lbs.

6'4 - 6'6
192 - 216
Not all that similar.

#3 OA - 26 gms, 21G, 23A, 44pts
#187 OA - 29 gms, 18G, 31A, 49 pts
hmmm, pretty similar, well except for draft position.
and not really same quality of teammates. Sudbury is not that sexy, but Barlow, Ritchie and Danford is all first rounders togehter with Sennecke, while Musty is injured and not in a good mood in general in SUdbury
