Jets - internal salary cap?

What’s the point of this thread other than to insinuate the Jets have an internal cap.

True North have been spending to the cap max every season since they became perennial contenders. It’s been virtually a full decade now.

Take this thread back to our rebuilding years where it belongs.

Aren’t we past this?

If the Jets fail epically again come playoff time, those rebuilding years could return sooner than later.

League better balance out the revenue sharing to help about 20 ish teams a lot or this will very quickly become a 8-10 team league and the rest of the teams just become feeder teams for the ones who have big revenue. If they don’t balance it out well, NHL isn’t worth watching anymore.

This is a very rapid change.
Let’s take Ehlers and KFC for how this news impacts our Jets. Their agents know they are in a market where they can get much more money than Bucky and Scheifele got.
What does this do to a team that has navigated a stagnant cap very deftly while keeping a consistent core together based on economic realities.
The Jets aren’t the only club this affects.
I’m sure Colorado knew about this and still decided not to rock the boat by signing Rants to a bigger deal than Nate?
This isn’t great news for many teams not located in Toronto,Edmonton,New York or even Montreal

Agreed but tickets for a Jets game cost more than some places especially in some U.S markets.

By how much?
And Jets have a smaller arena so prices may be higher due to that plus 40%+ multiplier to player cost.

The NHL has been a coin flip league for decades now. Perennially getting into the playoffs as a top seed is quite the accomplishment.

Since 2022 we have the most regulation wins & since 2023 the best record in hockey. It's now been 3 seasons of regular season dominance with no sign of our core aging out.

Chevy isn't blowing up a team of this calibre anytime soon & the NHL just did us a favour with the salary cap jump allowing Chevy to re-sign the entire list of UFA's & RFA's & run this roster back again next year.

A rebuild in Winnipeg is a long time away.

In 2026 Kyle Connor will be the highest paid Jet & it'll be a minimum $2 million over the present Scheifele & Hellebyuck contracts.

Neither of them will bat an eye knowing it's not only in the best interest of the Jets but also the NHL players union.

My point was simply it’s extremely rapid in terms of the increases.
The cap has been static for a while now and it was probably a bit easier to keep the band together.
Cheveldayoff has managed the cap very well and our core has stayed on for very reasonable salaries.
You and I are merely speculating that players would or would not have issues with this.
We really don’t know, human nature can be unpredictable.
This is going to affect small market clubs and how they attempt to keep cores consistent.
We can only guess that the Jets will be mid cap going forward.
This is where playoff success is paramount to Winnipegs bottom line, it becomes even more crucial.
Ticket prices are going to rise a lot and now support is critical.
The perfect storm.
Weak Canadian dollar.
Lack of playoff success.
Low corporate support.
Small …at times apathetic market.
Ballooning cap.
There are reasons to be cautious or concerned.

You and I are merely speculating that players would or would not have issues with this.

The players union & the agents are all aware of the current guidelines in the Collective Bargaining Agreement & have an excellent understanding of when & how much the cap will increase.

It's a major factor for both the GM & player & plays into the term of every contract signed.

You're speculating that the Jets have players on their roster that would be envious of their teammates good fortune.

On the contrary this is what occurs.
