Injury Report: Jets health in the playoffs

What's this health update doing in the Stanley thread???

Honestly, the third pairing guys are interchangeable. But at home you can afford to have the lower mobility guys in the game because you can decide the matchups. I see Stan/Schenn as more of a liability on the road than at home. Use Miller/Fleury on the road, keep Stan/Schenn for home. Your third pair is fresher. Why when I coached in the NHL...

I don't see Schenn coming out of this series. He's too valuable for the PK, even though he was on the verge of being beaten back to the net on Rantanen's hat trick goal.

But he's out there and often effective. Fleury stepped up on the PK which was nice. If Morrissey draws in I'd like to see him with Schenn, because frankly Morrissey-De Melo were not great against St. Louis and Fleury-Melo have had 2 straight strong games. The net front strength of Schenn coupled with Morrissey's ability to create offense with his speed would seem like a good fit at this point.

Miller didn't impress me all that much. Honestly Jets might be better having Samberg run PP2.

Millers major defining quality is he has a booming shot but we need guys that can move the puck around vs Dallas. They really like to pressure up high.

See this is the thing I hate.

Just because Buffdog isn't all "Zomg Stanley Is The Worst!" you incorrectly state that he thinks he's good. Please show me posts where he says he's good? Why misrepresent his clearly stated opinion?

How about listen to what others are saying and try having a logical discussion instead?

My question would be do people think that Arniel icing Heinola and Kupari in these playoffs, and benching Gustafsson in favour of JAD and Toninato signal a slow shift towards a more North American style of hockey? That could see some changes in the offseason.

I don't know that I'd call it NA vs Europe thing but the org has adopted an identity and style they want to play. I've noticed that they have been much more diligent in trading for/drafting players who fit into that style.

In the top 6 they emphasize more of a forecheck/cycle/rotation based offense.

Bottom 6 a heavy forecheck and net crash approach.

They seem to want balanced defensive pairs.

But I'd say they don't care where a player is from if they play that way.

Europeans in the system like Wagner, Salomonsson, and now Lambert play that type of game.

Really I'd say it's only Ehlers on the team that doesn't. It's one of the reasons why I don't think we retain him.

Is there a possibility that you notice it more with Stnnley than other D men because you're biased against him?

The reality is that it happens to every single decensemen in the league, but you're more likely to see it if you're watching it

Realistically, you're talking about anecdotes... but the stats guys will tell you that over a long enough period, that should show up in the numbers. And during the season (and so far in thr playoffs), he's largely fine as long as he's paired with the right partner and his minutes and matchups are managed properly.. which is what you'd expect for any bottom pairing defenseman

I still think the hatred for Stanley is a self-fullfilling thing that started with Garrett's article about him prior to the draft (that I suspect had less to do with what he thought about the player and more to do with letting the world know that he has some kind of inside scoop on what an NHL team is planning) and has snowballed from there. When the entire fan base is biased against him and just holding their breath for him to f*** up so they can say "SEE!!!! STANLEY SUCKS" when it happens... while ignoring the same gaffes from other players

Was agreeing with this post until the last paragraph. There is a bias and we will see fault if we are looking for it. That doesn't mean Stanley's perceived flaws aren't real. It only means they are overstated. But, as you say, it can be managed to keep his head above water.

In 2016, I was dubious about Stanley before reading Garret's article. It supported and cemented my doubts. I was hoping for just about anyone but Stanley after reading it. But I think you are mischaracterizing his opinion of Stanley. IIRC he was very clear that he did not want to spend a 1st on him but said he wouldn't mind risking a 3rd rd pick. He was not absolutely against Stanley. He was against spending a 1st or, worse, a 1st and a 2nd on him.

In fairness to Stanley he seems to have worked hard, appears to be liked by his teammates, has learned to play more physically with that big body and has been adequate in the D zone. There are certainly worse 3rd pair Dmen in the league.
