Injury Report: Jets health in the playoffs

If it's his fibula, then it's not a re-aggravation of an existing injury - bones usually heal, and that's that. Even though the fibula is non-weight bearing, it would go through the same 4-8 week healing period as any other bone... and Nik didn't miss that much time IIRC

I'm concerned that it might be a high ankle sprain... that might explain the walking boot and the timeline. Those can be annoyingly slow to heal and are often prone to re-aggravation
Sounds pretty logical to me, and may be exactly where he’s at.

I think he'll miss cpl more weeks... prolly a serious sprain ankle foot region.. those take time to heal sometimes.. if u was season ending there would be no week to week designation

Hairline # to tib or fib can heal in 5 wk, Greenstick #’s take 6 wks avg.
Hope it’s just a fibula hairline or soft tissue. Soft tissue can form scar in 28-40 days.
I just avulsed my Peroneus tertius (useless little buggsr) and my calf was healed in 10 days. I treated myself with ultrasound. Don’t report me eh!
Yes, fibular hairline or occult fracture could conceivably be missed be on initial Xray and only appear later, on further imaging, after seemingly innocuous "reinjury."
Looking at the calendar it seems unlikely for him to be ready for the second round, but hope is not lost if the team can gut out till the middle of May.

And all this tibia stuff is pure speculation. There is zero reason to believe it’s true.
Agree. We're all grasping at straws, he but it does seem that the injury is more serious than any of us would like. It would be nice if he was able to return this series, but that seems unlikely based on what Arniel is saying and that he's not doing anything physical, apparently.

Having two days off for both games going to St. Louis is a blessing when it comes to these injuries. If we go to game 5 or 6 we’re looking at next Wednesday and Friday. Plenty of rest time for the guys. Earliest our next series(🤞)could possibly start is at least another week and the latest would likely be about 2 weeks.🤞

Next full practice will be telling. If he's still in a non contact then I wouldn't expect him prior to game 6 or 7 if it gets that far.
If we lose tomorrow, maybe the timeline gets bumped a bit and they play him in game 4. If not, and we end up tied 2-2 after that one, then you almost have to play him in game 5

I think that they're just being extra cautious, as they can afford to be with a 2-0 series lead

The longer Ehlers sits and the Jets keep winning without him I think will go a long way in terms of us signing him

Appleton is fine guys , Dolan would stay in for me over Gus . Hopefully Kupari and Vilardi come back and we get Tanev , Kupari and Barron together on fourth line .

Gus has been very good too, in limited TOI. I wouldn't be in any rush to get Kupari back in, though his speed would be welcome.

We have plenty of depth in the bottom 6. Can't find room to play them all.

People here keep saying groin injury for Ehlers but the only thing I’ve heard is a recurrence with a foot problem he had before?

That's the only thing I've heard too, but the way he looked leaving the ice is the reason for suspicion. He would not put ANY weight on either foot, or leg. The way he was holding himself looked like groin. But AFAIK that is the only reason to suspect anything other than the foot. Reports of him limping around sound more like the foot injury.

I know people are saying "rest him up and take a bit longer" but I am firmly in the camp to get him in starting lineup as soon as he is cleared, it will take him some time to get back to game pace and timing so it's not like he is going to be all ready to go the first game you need him. So holding him back till there is a loss is not a good plan to me. The earlier he is in the better the chance of him being at game pace for critical games where you truly need him.

Get him in the lineup, maybe start him on the 4th line to manage his minutes plus the PP time and slowly promote him up the lineup.

There are different ideas of what constitutes being 'ready'. If he's ready, yes. And also yes to easing him in, just to get him up to game speed/timing.

Simply cleared to play may or may not mean ready to play. I think that is more like ready to practice. Medically not likely to aggravate the injury, or re-injure it.

the thing is we don't know what the injury actually is and all we got is week to week and in this case it would be around 2 weeks since he went down

Taking Arny at his word, it is an re-aggravation of his foot injury. We don't know what that original foot injury was. Some of the medical experts here might have educated guesses. But that's it.
