And the rest of the RFA's aren't getting big dollars

Using a 78M Cap which is on the low end of projections, the Jets would have 8M to fill out 6 roster spots.

And that's without dealing Mason which will be priority # 1. Jets aren't in nearly the cap crunch some fans are predicting. It's after next season where they'll have some very tough decisions to make.

I'd do the trade offered in the OP... but would probably ask for a pick to compensate the one we lost... either a 7th 2018 or 6th 2019 or 5th 2020

A year of Myers? He has been great in the playoffs, but I think Toronto would be better served looking longer term. No disrespect to Myers.

Tyler Myers physical? guy is a gentle giant out there lol

edit - should reiterate/rephrase a bit, he does use his body but not for huge hits ie: Dustin Byfuglien. He uses his stick/reach to disrupt puck carriers more often than not. He's not soft, but I wouldn't say he is a physical dman

I meant as in he's not afraid to engage physically, hit when needed, use his size to his advantadge in the backend. He isn't a Cody Franson or exclusively a skilled PMD, or anything of the sort IMO. In the evolving NHL, it's getting to a head with skilled, PMD and either they have trouble against size/physicality (Gardiner), or they are simply too small to match others in a physical game (Carrick). For the sake of not triggering other fanbases, I named Leaf players.

Not many D-men are genuinely brutes that drop the mitts and lay people out in this league. The Jets are spoiled in that sense with Buff and to a lesser extent Trouba. You can probably count on 2 hands the amount of D in this league who steamroll guys/fight, while playing ~top 4 minutes, and being legit top 4 quality guys.

For me, Myers is a passable physical partner to one of our PMD, that has good size, which is a need for us.

What would the jets give up to shed mason’s 4.1M? As a Canucks fan i’d also be willing either just take him on, or swap Nilsson for mason with a compensation of a 3rd round pick.

No real need to shed one year of Mason, unless shit royally hits the fan in several other negotiations.
