How so? Chevy has only really brought in one head coach. Noel wasn't at all similar and he was Chipman's guy. Lowry was brought in by Maurice to be an assistant and Chevy promoted him as an interim. We really have no clue what Chevy is going to do with his next coach.

Say what you will but Maurice was a real good coach for this group at the time he was brought in. So Chevy got it right with him, he just kept him around too long. I'm fairly confident that Chevy will once again find the right coach for where this org is currently at.
I’m saying Chevy could have brought whoever he wanted as interim. The moose coach seems to have a different style than mo and Lowry. The fact Lowry got the nod…

I imagine if Vincent was still here he would have been given the gig. I'm willing to give him this summer to scour the entire market to get the right guy. This is Cameron's first head coaching gig in maybe a decade. I understand not wanting to put him in charge due to that.

It's also possible Chevy just wants Lowry to change up some very specific habits like being aggressive on the PK. Cleaning the net and going to the red paint. That and get Cole and some of the other kids acclimatized.

I imagine Chwvy likely has a short list if coaches he wants to coach this group. I would wager they aren't available atm.

Hard to believe we went from one of the deepest forward groups in Hockey to whatever crap we are icing now. We need a new GM

The 2011 Atlanta Jets were better that this spend to the cap version of the Chevy Jets. And those Atlanta Jets had the worst starting goal tender in the league.

Time for Chevy to do what he did with Maurice. Tell himself to decide to resign.

Do they go to the paint more? At times they seem soft.

Saw this one live; first hockey game I've ever sat in front row for (even though my ticket was for upper bowl :naughty:). Obviously a really disappointing ending, but damn was it fun to be there!

Brunch at Saddleroom Grill was pretty delicious too.

But they play the same system. So it’s not a different style, it’s just execution, execution, execution.

Agree, but I still have a few concerns. We've been told for years about the tightness of the Jets' "management group," and that Chipman, Chevy and (then) Maurice were on the same page regarding team direction, roster makeup and presumably also to some degree on deployment, playstyle, mix of player types and so on.

If that's the case, then maybe Chipman/Chevy's vision for the team is no necessarily so fat off from the team they've assembled. So there's a chance that a new coach is going to be quite a lot like the old coach(es), even if the team might play a bit or a lot better. Maybe this is is how they want to play -- right on down to the top 6/ bottom 6, passes back to the point, etc. I have no clear idea what Chevy thinks a contending team should look or play like, except that it includes Wheeler as a captain, Logan Stanley as a defenceman, and so on.

I guess I want to be optimistic, but it has been hard to watch Chevy seemingly caught off guard by the resignation of his head coach and then, with nearly 3/4 of the season to play, simply promote the next guy in line even as teams like VAN, CGY (last year) and now EDM manage to sort out their coaching on the fly with seemingly stronger results and apparently a plan going forward. At the start of this season CGY was the NHL's most mediocre team; now they're a contender. How the hell does that happen, and why can't we play?

IDK -- plenty of chances for them to get it tight for next year. But I'm far less hopeful than I was last offseason. Maybe it's all the losing.

Well, off to COL for a big upset. GJG, etc.

I don’t know why, but I just don’t see the effort from our ‘top’ players. Floating, lazy changes, no sense of urgency etc.

We don’t hit anyone…. Almost ever. Funny because near the end after Morrissey was hurt, he was angry and went and hit the guy with the puck. Nice clean but HARD hit. I remember thinking that it was odd watching a Jet really throw the body.

I don’t know why, but a lot of the team is going through the motions.

imagine if the guys with all the skill, played with the same urgency as the guys who have to scratch and claw just to stay in the NHL?

When you combine skill with drive, you get MacKinnon or Draisaitle or pick another star. 55 has all the skill and very little of the drive. He should be carrying this team but is not even a positive point player.

wish I had some words of wisdom why this is happening, but I’ve got nuthin’

Completely agree and it makes me think some real bad stuff has happened off-ice. Look at wheeler, has he raised his voice once on the bench this entire season? Has scheifele cracked a smile once this year? These guys are apathetic for some reason unbenounced to me. For a super positive hockey nerd like scheifele to coast every game, something went down. It's really sad actually.

Interesting observation. To me I see some players not giving it there all but there are plenty that are.

I think we at times associate Scheifele's apathy with other team members.

Speaking of Mark he's brought his effort level way up since the allstar break. Might be too little too late but I haven't seen much to complain about in his game. He's been better defensively and is much harder on the puck.

To me we don't often have them all pulling in the same direction and that is where coaching comes into play.

He is a little better, but he has nowhere near the drive and intensity of his peers. I think some (not necessarily you) are happy to see a little life from 55, but not willing acknowledge that he is FAR from where we thought he would at this point, when we were assessing him 3 years ago.

All we have to do is watch the number one center from almost any other team and compare that player to 55. He seems to have about zero joy playing and about the same amount of intensity. It takes someone driving him headfirst into the boards to get any kind of emotion from him.

Again, I have no idea why, but he is not leading this team to the promised land. And don’t get me started on the actual leader of the team.

Your points are well noted. There is always the possibility that Chevy wants a grinding it out in the paint type team with simplistic puck movement and point usage. If that is the case then he's done an absolutely horrible job drafting/acquiring players for that type of game plan.

I think the best idea we have as to what Chevy wants to build is akin to Chicago's cup run that he was part of. If you look at what he's drafted and acquired you will see similar elements on each team. He likes IQ and skill upfront which was one of the Hawks MO. You also see Chevy want a hybrid defense like what Chicago had with a two-way defensive leader, some puck movers and some defensive specialists.

We have also seen this team play a pretty robust and aggressive game when at its best 17-18. Also a quick look at the Chicago Wolves stats while he was GM showed that his teams were offensive juggernauts. They lead the league in scoring and did it by a landslide in a couple of years, they were top 5 the other two years they had data for. I have a hard time seeing them toy with the league offensively if Chevy had them play overly simplistic systems. But the proof will ultimately be in the pudding.

I am not happy with his play on a whole this year but I have seen a lot more intensity from him lately. He is now fighting hard for pucks and has been much more assertive for them. Imo nor any of our other players need to put players through the boards for them to show that they care. Imo he isn't power type center, he is using his size and skill to create space for himself which is what he needs to do. He isn't a top 5 to 10 center any longer from what I have seen but he still is a valuable player if playing at this level. He is about a month away from 29 so to me it isn't really that surprising given aging curves that he isn't as dominant as he was at 24-26. Perhaps the new expectation should be that he is a good point producing 1B center that is used similarly to how Tavaras and Malkin are used for their teams respectively, i.e playing behind a stronger matchup center.

We just need to hope Dubois keeps developing as a power match up center.

To me I think the torch needs to be passed a bit here. Have Dubois, Conner, Morrissey etc carry the leadership role and push the play on the ice.

Edit: looking at some of the elite cup winning number 1C's of the past, most had their last elite year in around the 28-31 range. While I think we like to think our players will beat the trend no reason to think Mark will age better then Toews, Lecavier, Richard's, Staal, Kopitar etc. He's right at that age where we should expect a step back. It doesn't mean he can't still contribute at a first line rate but I wouldn't be counting on him being a franchise center moving forward. I really hope he can round out his game into more of a 70 point center with sound defense.

Did not watch the game (was only gonna watch it if they won) but this looks like an expertly executed tank game. Looking at the scorecard looks like the played like a pretty solid game, hung in there with the flames but then conveniently gave up a goal in the dying minutes to make sure they got no points out of this.

Well I don't know what's up with this year's team. A few things are clear:

Wheeler ain't what he was even just two years ago

Scheifele as well

The Jets, when they were contenders that one time in 2018, did it on the backs of those two players. They ain't winning shit playing like this. Dubois isn't enough of a star player to carry the extra weight. So, need to make changes in the off season. I would probably start with a new coach and see what happens. Although I'm suspecting it's a player issue now.

Tough to cheer for the team when the effort isn’t there every night Start the exit interviews now and makes some deals. Only Helly is untouchable IMO
