I'll be in favor of less officials on the ice until the day I die I think. Just too many of them and somebody is always in the way in the corners.

Spoiler: Old Crazy Man Rant

Extend the penalty box, put the linesmen in the boxes on the bluelines and they can come out to police the ice as necessary. The two remaining officials should both be refs. It shouldn't be hard. We went with a three person system using only one ref for a long time. Reducing that to two but having both be refs capable of calling penalties should be okay.

I also happen to think the NHL should hire an off-ice official watching the game from above that should be able to sound a horn to call a penalty (it's amazing how much a different perspective can have) and also firmly believe the NHL is behind the times by not making calls like icing and offsides and such be made by AI using tracking technology rather than an official struggling to keep up with the players making a call that could be affected by paralax. It would also eliminate coaches challenges for offisdes. But them's just my two unasked for cents.
