I don't know but that really was a scheduled loss for the Jets: B2B on the road when the team that you face in game #2 is waiting and resting at home while you play game 1. Usually the backup goalie gets that game and it's a loss.

We (rightfully) say the same thing on our board when the Avs have their own scheduled loss which happens a few times every year. Next one is January 9th vs Minny.
Except that we do very well on the 2nd game of a b2b and we often are sluggish with more that a day between games.

B2B is tough but blaming the schedule when we skated circles around them is sour grapes.

Peg fans complain about a B2B? Their idiot coach started their #1 goalie against Nashville, who had no chance of winning after trading Parsnip.

Parsnip sat for a bit after Nuke went down, but had one shift in the 3rd where he hit anyone in a Jets sweater he could get near.

Officiating in this game was a joke, simply atrocious. And the Peg are a dirty fvcking hockey team. Stanley should have had his career ended for being a complete D-bag. And his full body slam of Lehkonen late in the game drew a blank stare from the idiot ref.

I'm not felling as hard on Big Sam Malinski as some of you boys due to circumstances.

Refs were exceedingly bad. Winnipeg got skated around and we're pretty much taking a penalty every time the Avs were in the offensive end. But like you said just blank stares from the refs. That looked like a dead puck era game countless grabs, holds, trips, body slams etc from Winnipeg and the refs just looking the other way.

I'm not looking for a call every time down the ice, but it's really hard to play when one team is basically allowed to do whatever they want to stop the other.

I want to trade Rantanen because I want this team to have a chance to win while Makar is still in his prime. Because of the salary cap, I don't believe that you can win a cup if you have 3 superstars paid like superstars.

That's the only reason.
Last year, Florida won the cup with its top 3 players accounting for 35% of the cap.

If Mikko signs for 12.5 and the cap is 92, the avs would be at 37%.

It’s definitely doable. Depends on the quality of the rest of your roster. But it won’t be because they’re paid too much. Not when it’s shown it can be done.

Couldn't watch the game, how was Blackwood?

Mikko ANOTHER empty netter???? Holy shit. Does he lead the league for empty net points? If so by how many? Gotta be way more than Kucherov now.
Blackwood was solid, made all the saves he needed to. I think he was positive again in GSAA. No issues whatsoever with the 2 goals allowed either.

Refs put the whistles away and let both teams play a playoff game.

I have no problem with it.
I agree. Whichever way they decide to call the game, be consistent. If you’re going to make it a playoff type calling, just make sure it’s equal on both ends. Same way if you’re gonna call a penalty fest.

I should have been more clear and added "as the Avs". Which means a team that can't draft/develop and no longer has the sweetheart deals that can compare to what the Panthers had last year with Reinhart, Montour, Forsling, etc.

The Avs are lacking key players that overplay their contracts. Look at how much Mack/Nuke/Kadri/Lehky were making when we won the cup. They were all significantly underpaid in relation to their UFA value.

We have Makar and Rantanen left and it's the last season for Rants.

Sure, but the Avs can try to get those excess value contracts as well. It might mean trading Colton or Manson and getting picks and trying to find good solutions for cheaper.
Ritchie will need to be one of those guys.

We don't have enough time for picks to develop and join the core and give us excess value. It's too late. Maybe Ritchie.

Who suggested waiting for picks to develop?

I’m talking about making trades like Toews and Lehkonen. Trade away Colton and Manson, either exchange them for these RFAs that can possibly give you excess value. Or use the assets obtained to target trades for players who maybe haven’t peaked yet.

I don't really think that 2022 team should be held as a standard. That was arguably the best SC winning team in the cap era, despite having the worst goaltending to win the cup in 30 years. We don't have to be that good.

And in the end, it doesn't matter if you pay your top guys top dollar, if they perform. We know that our guys do. Some people say look at Toronto and how it works for them with paying 4 forwards 40ish million dollars. Well, the issue is not them taking 40 millions of the cap, the issue is that those guys perform like wet noodles when it matters. I'm pretty happy to pay Rantanen and MacKinnon combined 25 million dollars if and when both those guys put up numbers like they have in the past during playoffs.

Uhm.

Nuke (ignoring off ice antics) is overplaying his contract by $2-3 mil.
Lehkonen is overplaying his contract by $2-3 mil.
Drouin is overplaying his contract by $2-3 mil.
Makar is overplaying his contract by $3-5 mil.

You're also ignoring the fact that Florida was/is paying Ekblad $7.5 mil, Bobrovsky $10 mil, and Knight $4.5 mil that pretty much offset any good contracts they had.

The Avs don't have a bad contract (yet). I guess you could argue Wood and Toews, but even then it's more about the length rather than the AAV.

Bob was one of their 3 guys paid like superstars so I sure wasnt ignoring him.

As for your list of Avs players, those aren't anywhere near the kind of excess value that you need.

Look at how much Mack/Kadri/Toews/Nuke were making during the cup year. Then add Kuemper, Manson and Lehky all on small contracts with retention.

Completely different cap situations and the Panthers last year were in a similar boat.

So if we ignore Bob, they were still paying Ekblad an extra $2 mil and Knight $4.5 mil.

The cup winning Avs team was one of the most dominant teams in the last 2 decades. We don't need to steamroll every opponent to win another cup.
