Just finished, holy f*** what a game. Great 5 on 5 play. More of that please! CBJ on paper isn't great but they've been playing well this season prior to this game. Good Pionk is so much fun to watch. That Connor assist was chef's kiss. Offer Ehlers a matching deal to 55/37 to get it done please!

The only complaint I have is the horrible camera angle in that arena. You are so far away from the action. I have seen CBJ games when Laine used to play there and it was never like this.

Funny you should say that. I thought it was just me. Went and changed my glasses. (I have a more comfortable pair and a better vision pair.)

Got home and had time to catch about a period and a half on PVR. As people have posted here that was domination for the most part at least up to the point I watched. Jets were playing fast collectively, first to pucks allot and seemed to be outnumbering the Jackets on an allot of battles. 5 man units were also handling transition from defense to offense very well. Lots of team pace on counter attack.

Nice on the PP#1 they are attacking the blue line in layers more in the new system. The zone entry appears less predicable.

Very impressive.

The Winnipeg Jets are here to destroy other villages’ airports and unplug their routers.

But seriously, it will be interesting to see how they play going forward now that they have a series of games against high quality teams.

So happy for Ehlers getting the hattrick! Any insight as to what is different with the Winnipeg Jets this year?

Is it Scott Arneil? His assistants? Cheveldayoff who re-signed Miller and brought in Fleury and Comrie? The players?
Indeed, so what is the difference this year ?

1) Scott Arneil - I didn't think he was the right man for the job, but has he ever proven me wrong so far. I'm very happy to be wrong, as he is making good player selections, and dividing up their time on ice.

Example - the playing of Nik Ehlers on power play # 1. Nik is one of the fastest skaters in the NHL, and is a great stickhandler, and has a wicked hard accurate shot, as showed last night. The guy has been missmanaged for the last 4 or 5 years, and should always be on power play # 1. Nik is now in the Top 20 point scorers in all of the NHL. I have been saying this about Ehlers on here for the last 4 years, and I'm glad Arneil sees the talent in this guy. If Ehlers keeps scoring at this pace, it will cost the Jets in the $ 8.5 to 9 mil mark to sign him, because that's what he could command as a UFA. With Ehlers talent, and "proper" ice time he should be scoring in the 70 - 90 point range every year. It's going to cost the Jets a lot of $$$ to keep him, so sign him right now Chevy.

# 2 - Good acquisitions by Chevy, like Miller and Fluery, and by Scott Arneil to assess this talent and use it properly.

# 3 - Power Play - I believe it's clocking at around 40 % or higher, and looks very fast and very efficient, so the Coaches who have devised a good plan on how to implement a good strategy, and put the top players out there, need to be commended -- like adding Ehlers on Powerplay # 1. Leave it that way - we;re seeing great success.

4) Kyle Connor - he has upped his play a lot from last year, and looking like one of the superstars of the NHL. Well done Kyle, and keep up the hustle and good work.

This is what I see so far, as being the "difference" from last year.

The Jets defense mitigates Comries’ shortcomings. I have no problem when he starts.
Yes! This group is underrated.

Not Stanley bashing but he was the weak link last night, I really hope Fleury draws in for a couple games to keep him in it. Kupari earned another start with a very strong performance last night.

I really can't complain about a single player from last night - this team is executing magnificently.

Special mention to:

Connor: just a magnificent game, his assist on Vilardis goal is stuff of highlight reels. We're witnessing an elite scoring winger at the absolute top of his game, playing all 200 feet.

Nikky: THIS is the Ehlers that I absolutely love. Managing the puck and SHOOTING instead of forcing a risky play to the middle of the ice. He does this all season and he hits 35-70 with ease and likely more.

Pionk: looks like the Pionk Slammy pair is back. I thought Samberg still had some iffy moments but overall they were solid. Neal is really timing his offensive forays will and is moving the puck so well.

Comrie. Great bounce back game. Made some really timely saves on dangerous chances.

This is fun

How many 50 goal scorers? Right now it looks like Connor and Ehlers. 100 point players? Connor, Ehlers and maybe Scheifele, though obviously we can't keep this up. heck 5 point a game or better players with 5 more breathing down it's neck.
I really hope he proves me wrong but Ehlers is a bit too streaky for 50-100. I'm really just hoping for him to stay healthy and continue managing the puck like he has been the past handful of games.

I've been thinking about the one thing that the Jets struggle with and a potential counter. The Avs in the playoffs did a fantastic job of putting the puck behind our d to counter our aggressive blueline gap, and managed to gain possession a lot, cycling the puck and setting up prime chances (kind of like we do).

Id love to see at least one forward marking the forechecker and being the retrieval guy on dumps. That would allow our d to continue to snuff out rush chances with their blueline step ups.

Does anyone have Arniels number? 😅

4 lines is what makes this team tick when they are rolling thru them other teams just can't keep up and or contain them. Combine them with solid D and goaltending you get the results we have had so far this year.

SO TLDR bored Saturday morning before the kids get up post!

I am very cautious and wasn’t going to post this yet since we are just 11 games in but what the hell .

My concern (hang with me because you will like where its going):

That raw box scores are insane and we are riding the mother of all hot streaks (hottest in 2.0 history I assume). I haven’t even bothered to scape the shooting % data but I assume it is comically off the charts.

Connor is on pace to challenge McDavid with his 134 season

Ehlers on pace for 111 points

Appleton on pace for 67 points

I think you get where I am going. What we have here is hilariously joyously unsustainable

HOWEVER

I once we get pat the luck, I wonder if we are not seeing a bit of the Bones exit effect?

Bones took over Dallas as head coach when Monty stepped down and he worded hard at gettting the defensive system in place (at some cost to scoring). In his last season as the head coach the Stars scored 238 goals in 82 games. The following season under DeBoer the stars increased scoring significantly to 285 goals (from 238) and also decreased goals against.

Bones exits the Jets and Arny and his new assistants bring in their system and like in Dallas after Bones leaves team scoring elevates.

In saying that I will be watching this as the year progreesses and our team finds its new normal scoring level.

Bones did guide us to a 110 point season and a league leading lowest goals against but Rick had league best goaltending to prop up the numbers.
