I love how Petan and Lipon went in 2 on 4 and ended up winning the possession from that board battle.

Those two have played some very good possession hockey tonight, for sure.

And that wraps it - nice win. Great game: feisty, some good play by both teams, fights, goals, penalties, etc. Sitting on the deck consuming Caesars - good night, this.

That was great to watch some Jets hockey, even if it wasn't the big club. Petan sure is an impressive player. There were a number of guys who stood out for me. Sadly, Sutter was not one of them. I really liked the play of Morrissey.

We have some talented kids in our system. Game was a tad sloppy at times but that is to be expected with a first game together scenario. Good to see kids with hands that can finish....nice balance of skill and grit.

Just FYI, the commentators said that the games will be archived on the team websites.

Kitchon really redeemed himself. If you didn't watch the game and see his egregious giveaway, you'd think he had a picture perfect game.

Edit: I may be confusing Kitchon with Kostalek. (getting old)

A few things I observed in the third:

- Trouba moves forwards too much, with and without the puck
- Petans IQ is through the roof, not just his hands.
- Scheifeles defensive reads are fantastic, he bailed out Kostalek before Kostalek knew he was in trouble (off of a NZ faceoff)
- Our ability to cycle and control the puck was fantastic
- The young stars PK system seemed more effective than the Jets system, much more aggressive
- Telegin has great speed but knows how to use it, one play he skated about 85% so the D would take a different angle on him, as soon as they bit he floored it and blew by them. They would've played a different angle if he just booked it to begin with, he's smart with his speed.
- I called it at the draft, Kichton is going to be a steal.

Me too. He's got a really interesting skill-set, great speed and very strong on his skates. Also seems to play much bigger than what he's listed at.

I'm really looking forward to seeing more of him, that's for sure.

Sutter... wasted a high 2nd round pick there.

I'm not too familiar with other prospects from the later rounds of that draft though (other than Frk & Leipsic). If you could have that one back... who do you take 39th overall?

Can't say I agree at all with the bolded. His hands are fantastic, did you see some of the fakes and touch passes he was pulling off in the second? He whiffed on that open net, big deal.

I agree about Trouba, but I'm pretty sure that McCambridge told the Baby Jets to go out and play their game, don't worry about systems. That makes sense, it's a showcase after all. I'm sure Trouba will be more responsible once he comes up here for the preseason.

To elaborate a bit more, I thought he chased a bit to much too. Was a little disappointed with his defensive play.

Morrissey on the other hand, seemed much more calm, patient, more sure handed, and smarter.

Hank I think he meant that Petan's hands and IQ are through the roof as in all the above.

No I didn't, I only watched the third. That 2 on 4 was a thing of beauty, and it was all him. Crossed the blue line with speed, stalled quick, shot it over to Lipon, then immediately found some open ice since Lipon was going to get pressure. There were a few other smaller plays that he did that were quite nice.

Perhaps a bit of rust on Trouba it has not been a problem when I have watched him in the past but he was looking like he was in a rush to leave the zone tonight. I did enjoy watching him absolutely punish a kid in the slot on the PK......we don't do enough of that on the Jets.

I agree that Trouba needs to settle down a bit defensively. I wonder if he was just a bit over-aggressive with the level of competition. He has great wheels and puck skills.

I agree that Morrissey has some special skills and presence. I think he'll be good.

Petan looks very good... a very heady hockey player.

Scheifele was fine... better defensively than offensively. I liked his speed, though he looks like he'll never be the most sturdy guy on his skates. He still has a long way to go on face-offs. If neither Kane nor Setoguchi can take FOs, I'm not sure how that trio can play together, except maybe neutral and O-zone starts.

I liked Lowry. Something about him says "Pro" to me. I think he will skate well enough, and has size and smarts.

Sutter actually skated okay, but I don't see much there in upside.

Its so nice to watch the Jets play again!

Really like Morrissey and Petan!

Yea count me in on this group......Morrissey is the type of player that jumps out at you when you watch him. What I like is he doesn't just grab the puck and take off without a plan....he really seems to read the play and understand how and when to start and or jump in the rush. It's that combination of intelligence and skill that are the key.

The team definitely looked a little sloppy but I'm happy with the win. I thought both Pet an and Morrisy looked great and Scheifele and Trouba had solid games as well.

The guys with preseason action did look to have some extra jump which isn't all that surprising. I fully expect Scheifele and Trouba to get better as the tournament progresses as they shake off the rust.
