Jets 5 - Leafs 2

I don't know, the ref was standing right there and obviously saw that the puck was still loose. I would agree with you if the ref wasn't standing right there.
It was jammed against the post as players looked and fought for it and Shuffles pocked it in........it may of required a curved stick. it was a good goal.

I would include vilardi in there as well. I’m super impressed with his puck handling abilities in tight spaces and his puck battles in general.

Couldn’t have said it better. My feelings exactly.

Including the “Merry Christmas to all”.
I love when Vilardi scores because its always incredible puck handling. But even when hes getting primary assists and battling along the boards hes a sight to behold. He belongs up there with Scheif and KC just because he sets them up for so many opportunities

Vilardis hands are so filthy in tight whether it be scoring or playmaking. He's not given enough credit for his passing.

Agreed. Leaf goalie had already made the save and the puck came loose. He wasn't in the act of trying to save the puck so it stands to reason that Mark didn't interfere with any attempt to save. I think Berube said something to that effect after the game - there was nothing to challenge.
I just think Berube thought if i lose the challenge the Jets will score on their PP anyway so what's the point.

He could not challenge that play.
Goalie interference is the only challenge he could use which there wasn’t.
I’m glad the refs let them play because the Leafs sure were falling to the ice easy.
I’m starting too notice that around the league in a few games … players going down too easy to drawn a penalty. Demelo is guilty of that too he’s done it a couple of times … not good.

Agree. Vilardi snagging the puck out of midair, settling it down and then making that perfect backhand pass to 55 was absolutely sublime. He’s a wizard in tight and wins his share of board battles. Not a speedster but his cycle game and IQ / vision are a great fit for the top line.

What a way to punctuate the first stretch of the season and set up the next set. Happy holidays all and be well!

I actually liked Scheif's pass more than that goal. One on one with Marner he backs him up until he finds the space for that pass and puts it in the only spot Connor can score in. On his backhand.

Those were some high skill level plays. You can see why Arniel wasn't too keen to drop KC off that line, even though these boards generated some media attention for Ehlers cause early in the season/preseason.

They have their down games, but when they are on that's one of the best top lines in the league.

Ehlers looked like he was shot by a sniper in the high-sticking penalty he drew against Anaheim, LOL

I'm not saying it wasn't a penalty, but I am saying that just because you're from Denmark doesn't mean you have to bring Hamlet levels of drama to the ice.

It's a game of inches that pass was a beauty and resulted in a beautiful goal sometimes thou the pass is a fraction of a second off or an inch off and its a miss with the puck going the other way and sometimes it results in a goal against and people get choked up and blame 55/81.
People need to realize there's good players on the other team and they too can make great plays instead of blaming the Jets.

My take is Arniel had a vision on what the 1st line could be if Scheifele and Connor were matched with a big winger who creates space and wins board battles and has the offensive skills to compliment them. He also had to trust they would all buy into a 2 way game. Right now I’m buying what Arniel is selling.

His pass on schief’s 1st was a beaut.

Frailty thy name is Ehlers - but there is method to his madness!

It’s not about the playoffs for me anymore.

Regular season starts in October and ends in the spring so it is really here to take us through our winter months. It’s 82 games of ups and downs. The tournament in the spring for the cup is that thing you hope for once in your life but honestly it’s so far fetched I have decided to not worry about it anymore. If it happens it happens, if not then so be it. Playoff hockey is often just a week or two and it usually sucks for us.

Expectations are the thief of joy.

Yesterday was a great day to be a Jets fan as a stand alone event. I have let go of having how we do in the spring tourney impact my journey.

GJG

Merry Christmas and Happy holidays all.

Ahhhh, acceptance. Warm and fuzzy.

Nevermind another Vezina, can we include Hellebuyck in the Hart conversation this year? I mean, is he not the perfect example of Most Valuable to his team?

^ this x100 :thumbu:

Goalies rarely get consideration for the Hart. This is one of the times when one really should.

I managed to get the game in and have another go at it before bed, and the difference last night was striking. Compared to the last 15, 16, maybe 17 games, the way we played was night and day. There was so much more effort, so much more give a shit out there.

One play really stood out to me: one of our players, without a stick, dove in our zone and managed to scoop the puck all the way down to the other end. Not only that, but he curled it perfectly so it didn’t go for icing. It’s these little moments that I watch for throughout the game—the moments that tell me where our effort level is at. Are we locked in? Are the players’ hearts in it tonight?

I’ve got to say, when the Jets are focused on the details and giving it everything they’ve got every shift, they’re probably the best team in the league right now. I’m happy to say that. But they’ve got to keep this kind of effort going. They can’t start coasting, buying into their own hype, and think they can cruise into the playoffs. That just won’t cut it.

Yep. No excuses from Helley this post season. If he plays at this level there really is no good reason why we shouldn't make it to the Cup finals

Against Toronto please.

Connor and Scheifele have changed so that what was true in the past no longer is. At least as long as they keep playing the balanced game they are playing so far this year. How much credit is due to Arniel is unknowable, as is how much is due to Bowness. But in the end, it is KC and Scheif who are doing it. So credit to them.
