Post-Game Talk: Jets 5 - Flames 2

Last night against the Wild he got a nice goal but then he did this super weird skate over to the boards and stare at a Wild fan in what was so cringe. Then I found out it’s his thing like a death stare. The hilarious part is it’s very awkward and nobody even knows WTF he is doing. Obviously trying for the heel prosona but he doesn’t need gimmicks because his face even a mother couldn’t love is all he needs.
And yet I would welcome him with open arms if he were in a JETS jersey and doing his Schlick against the likes of Vegas, Colorado, Dallas and Edmonton!!!!

I agree that the Jets struggle with LA and VGK

But you didn't answer me as to why they beat some teams while well rested but lost during their insane schedule

For example, we struggled vs LA and VGK both while rested and tired. So that's more likely a stylistic thing

But you failed to account for the teams we've beat (sometimes easily) while rested but not when tired
I do not have an answer other than the Jets are a good regular season team. They typically beat the teams they should but like every team lose a few games they shouldn't.
The schedule was not kind to them but all teams are facing that because of 4 nations for example, the wins against Cal and Uta came with both teams playing the night before.

I believe the Jets are good just not sure if they are playoff good.

Not sure I'd go that far... Flames high danger chances were mostly against Fleury-Stan... they are getting better but Miller is by far the best option on that third pairing
Really? I thought Josh had the toughest game. Stan getting those shots through on his offside is something that Miller has struggled to do. Created one goal. And both guys were able to jump in offensively to create chances. I know I am old, but I thought I saw some good things out there.

Yeah, I'm not even sure how anyone can deny that

I just took a quick peak and only 2 teams (MIN and VAN) have better road records than home records. A bunch are even-ish, but there are 8-10 who are much better at home than on the road

Even CHI is 10-14-2 at home but 5-15-3 on the road
I remember reading an article about this a few years ago and they proved it with receipts.
Penalties ... power plays .. game management.
Home teams usually get more PPs plus usually you get travelling teams on B2B or 3 games in 4 nights. If the home teams don't win ... attendances goes down.
Unless of course you have a great PPs then "no power plays for you!"

I had to go out for dinner ... so I left after Apples scored to make it 2-0 . Usually I'll eat late or early so I don't miss any of the game but I got struck with the Calgary feed and I just could not take it any more. They made so many mistakes calling Samberg ... Stanley, calling Perfetti ... Connor. They showed the Gus goal talking about the bad bounces at CLC and said that was Perfetti's hat trick goal.
Three shots on net for the Flames but said they deserved better outcome in the first period ... LMFAO.

We will agree to disagree - morrissey was very very solid but yes samberg was our best D

Fleury and stan had good moments but when they make a mistake its a big mistake... comrie bailed them out more than any other pairing

I dont understand the 'created one goal' comment...?

The 2nd goal came out of the chaos from the Stanley one timer on net. I like the shots he got through, also those two had some strong puck movement on the 4 on 4. Fleury was buzzing offensively. To keep the pace up.

But I can understand your point, there were some breakdowns. Stan got caught on a couple of pinches, and they broke down as a pairing for a grade A, watching the highlights.. I thought Namestnikov looked a little off as he normally covers up well and he was on the wrong side for one of those chances. Had a few gaffes in his own zone too that led to sustained pressure.

Morrissey got burnt on his coverage for the 2nd Flames goal, but he was obviously under the weather...There were a couple more he was lucky didn't go in as he was outworked in front of his goalie. That's an abnormal game for him, he is usually very strong on body position battles.

I agree Sammy had a great game. Best d-man in blue tonight.

That Flames goal was a really nice pick on Apples... and Kadri doing what he does net front

Pionk is having a career year, yes it's a contract year and yes he is going to get paid, do the Jets pay up and does he continue he great play for years to come, do the Jets take that chance? Him and Samberg really make a really good pair.

I hope it is the pairing rather than the contract year. But his last really good season was also a contract year so .......

He will be expensive and he will want term. I don't know if I want to keep him or not. I'm glad I don't have to make that decision.

Wow ! I a flattered you have been following me. To err is human , to forgive is devine.
I hope you can forgive me and point out what I have been wrong about? In general I know which teams the Jets will beat and lose too plus their schedule also is a give away for predicting W and L's. I have said I am trying to enjoy the pre-real season success and not look to far ahead. I also think the last 2 games were closer than the score indicated. I am concerned about the 3 game road trip and smell a 1-2 record but hope I am wrong.
Winnipeg Jets tied for 1st in the NHL with 71 points, most goals scored in the NHL with 180 , best goals for /against in the NHL at +56 . Toronto 30-18-2 for 62 points , 152 goals scored, and a solid +10 in goals for /against. And you think Toronto is a better team and will go farther in the playoffs than the Jets. I think you are a Leafs fan pure and simple. As a matter of fact I've seen you post on the Leafs board pumping their team so you can see the confusion that some on here might have . Go Jets Go.

I've chosen your post to respond to, Jets 31, because you are clearly a great fan, with good intentions.

Calling a Jets fan who is pessimistic about the team's playoff chances a troll (as others have done, or insinuated), or non-fan is the HF equivalent of McCarthyism. Look it up and you will see the damage that is done in any society (including this 'play society') when the people who don't think like the majority are scorned, interrogated and rejected.

Almost everyone here is a Jets fan. A minority are constructively critical or pessimistic, based on past performance, analytics, or just good old-fashioned anxiety. So what? If you can't enjoy the difference of opinion, just ignore them. But don't join the attacking mob--you are too good for that.

Scheif and Vilardi shooting over 20%
Connor on pace for 100 pts
Ehlers and Vilardi both heading for 70+
Samberg, Jomo, Ehlers are our fancy stat leaders
Adv stats still hate Pionk haha

I'd like to see what Ehlers would do on a line with Nino-Kupari
So what advanced stats are you looking at? I just checked Natural Stat Trick and while Ehlers counting numbers are up, his basic underlying 5 on 5 numbers have fallen off. And Pionk actually rates out a little better.

According to Natural Stat Trick

CF%
Ehlers 50.48%
Pionk 50.51%

HDCF%
Ehlers 46.41%
Pionk 49.84%

xGF%
Ehlers 49.34%
Pionk 50.17%

All the while with the ice tilted against Pionk with only 38.46% offensive zone starts compared to 65.82% for Ehlers.

Once again, the Jets are a good team but I am not convinced their pre-playoff season play can be replicated in the playoffs. I hope I am wrong.
I am definitely not a leafs fan but can still think they will win the cup. I would not be happy if they did but have a feeling they will based on having an easier road than the Jets

I hope that clears up the confusion and just because my pom poms are not as big as @gojetsgo does not mean I do not want the Jets to go!!
