Post-Game Talk: Jets 4 - Stars 1

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

At LA, At Vegas, At Stars At Oilers, home games Caps, Oilers, Devils and throw in 4 more games against teams fighting for a WC spot.
Dallas has 10 home games and only plays 5 playoffs teams and 2 teams fighting for WC spot.
Jets odds after winning this game are over 80% finishing 1st but I never count my chickens before they are hatched.
The last 3 Jet game winless streak was because of running into a hot goalie not because of the Jets bad play ... anything can happen.
Dallas has 10 games in their next 17 days including a back to back and no 2 day rests. Even against non playoff teams, that'll be a grind. Those two games in hand cut both ways

Earlier in the season we saw what a schedule can do to a team, and that was when the Jets were still relatively fresh. We had a similar stretch last March when we went on a 7 game skid (IIRC)

Goals Against race

Jets 155 (67 games)
Kings 169 (64 games)
Stars 170 (65 games)

Goals for race
Capitals 239 (66 games)
Jets 234 (67 games)
Tampa Bay 228 (65 games)

Jets have goal differential of +80
and i thought that is good

until i saw
1976-77 Montreal team with +216 goals differential
How did they do that!!!!
I still think +80 with 15 games to go is pretty good.

Oh God, I wish people would get over the idea that the Oilers are actually a serious challenge for the Cup. Last year was not to be expected, last year was a fluke, for a team with two superstars and not much else.

They're 4-6 in their last 10 games, and have only won two games in regulation time, but every time McDavid wakes up in the morning with a dry diaper, the media moves them up four spots in the Power Rankings, but if the Jets go on a road trip and only win three out of four, they drop from #1 to #3.

I don't care that the Jets are consistently underestimated, in fact it's kind of funny, but I get so very, very tired about hearing about the Oilers. The Jets are the best team in the league this year, by a whisker, and the best Canadian time by a country mile. End of story.
The Oilers were playing pretty well until the last couple of months. Their goaltending was pretty average, but that was enough because the team was pretty good at pushing the play...McD and Drai really tilt the ice and they're pretty deep offensively. But then the wheels seem to have fallen off... hopefully they stay off, but that team has enough pure skill to be very dangerous if they get a run of decent goaltending.

Just a reminder at how unbelievably absurd TSN and SportsNet would be if the grease or leaves were on the verge of winning the President's Trophy. It would be non-stop deluge, story after story, day after day, of how incredible they are. And yet here we are, TSN asking, are we better than a team ten points behind us in the standings?

f*** our media so badly. Us vs the world.
The sports media job is to make money ... end of story. They don't care what's the best story of the night unless it bring in big ratings. They make more revenue from Edmonton and Calgary than Winnipeg.
The #1 game last night was the 2 top teams battling for 1st in the Western conference.
1st story McDavid's Oilers finally winning a game vs non-playoff team 2-1.
2nd story Flames trying to hold on to the last WC spot losing to the Avs.
3rd story # 1 NHL team vs #3 NHL team.
Toronto brings in the most revenue for SN & TSN ... heck they even get the NHL to change the starting times when the Leafs play out west. Players have routines meals, naps that they have to change just for the media since they pay big bucks to the NHL for the rights. Even McDavid jokes about it but secretly he is pissed off about it.
Winnipeg will get top billing once all the Canadian teams are out of the playoffs.

I despise the Oilers and this loser Gene wannabe Principe .

1 game but the team survived without Pionk against a very good team. The 6 D men as a whole played really well in front of Helle who had another solid start.
It goes to show you how good the team's defensive structure is. I thought Pionk was due for a big raise with the year he is having and he might even go the FA way but really its Samberg that should have the big payday. I hope Chevy signs him to 8 years.
Also the way Schenn is fitting in ... Chevy should maybe try to extend him after next season. If Burns is playing so well at 40 ... Schenn looks like he can too.

Yeah, so? They're a business that's out there to make money and I'm a fan that gets to react how I like. What a bizarre post.

Yup schedules really do matter and does effect ALL teams. You can usually tell when a team will go on a winning streak or losing streak by their schedule unless of course they have major injuries. Like this year so many were saying the Jets will do their usually nose dive in the new year but if they checked their schedule they would have seen this season the heavy schedule was in mid November early December. Jets went 6-8-1 ... 15 games in 29 days with 12 straight games in 12 different cities.
