Yes the Jets have to be better this playoffs i agree but it's not like they aren't the best team in the NHL right now as we speak . Best goals for / against in the NHL at +68 helps show that don't you think? And we just finished beating the 2nd place Caps in their barn . It's ok to give the Jets some respect you know instead of always being down on the team .

The real question is can they solve for whatever collective mental barrier this team has in the playoffs?

At the end of the day it really comes down to one player - Connor Hellebuyck.

Part of me wants him to win the 4 nations whatever the f*** it is - that would show a positive step playing in a higher stakes scenario against prime competition.

Of course that would mean Team USA would win ugh.

It's a learning experience. One play, one mistake that I'm sure he'll hear about. The kid can do some damage with his wheels. Just like Perfetti has to bulk up a bit for contact to get to the next level.

Glad Scotty gave him a game. Probably goes back to the Moose for the next 2 weeks with some confidence. Parker Ford too.

Exactly, it's a learning experience and you need games and reps to learn these things.

The kid has a lot of talent and like most entering the league needs to make some tweaks to his game to solidify himself as a regular.

I was just point out something that caught my eye. It wasn't meant to taken as me piling on him. It was constructive criticism. Now it could be as @voyageur stated as he may not feel hes strong or confident enough to cut in yet. He has taken some big hits this year so it might just be he needs more muscle before he goes to those areas more.

I agree it is a learning experience and that was just one play but putting him on the 4th line is not suited for his skill set. I think Perfetti is a much better overall player than Lambert. I also think Ford struggled at times but is better suited for 4th line play.

There is the other thing that @Hunter368 and I were discussing in the GDT. It is possible a team asked to see him as a potential piece of a trade.

Not saying I'd like to see that, but we are getting closer to the deadline so it would fit.

He wasn't practicing in that spot on Thursday so he seemed like a last minute type add to the game.

This team seems different this year. I think last year's embarrassment might have been the actual real wakeup call they needed. They all seemed pissed off for the first time.

I recall that play He had no business replacing Ford. He does not fit on a 4th line and is not NHL ready yet. I know the team as a whole was kind of off but why put him in a position to fail?

Every line is supposed to play the exact same way. Giving Lambert some NHL time in no way is putting him in a position to fail. He's getting time on the Jets playing with NHL talent and against NHL talent. Gus is seems like he is playing a resectable game with flashes of a little more and Iafallo is probably going to a team where he will play in the middle 6 next year. Those are two real players that combined with some good matchups give Lambert some real possibility to shine and he did have his moments.

4th lines are generally tasked with simple north-south games and strong puck management. Get pucks out, get pucks deep, cycle, low to high, crash the net... and get off the ice

They all play the same way. All the same responsibilities, all supposed to be where they are supposed to be. They don't have different systems for different lines. The difference is the talent of having a Scheifele or a Gus.

It's not latitude, it's skill. All the options are the same. There is a big difference in the options Scheifele is presented with leading the rush to the the other teams blue line than Gus. But at the end of the day when either one of them hits a wall of defenders and the other team's blue line the play is the same, don't turn it over, chip the puck in and get it deep.

Not playing straight lines and going with the flow instead of worrying bout the system has resulted in Ehlers always being on the short leash.

Exactly. That's the problem

I remember being on a team in Junior where the coach looked at the 4th line on the bench before he sent them out and said "just don't f*** up" (they scored, which is why I remember it lol)

That's the job description of a 4th line player. If you do f*** up, you're out of the line up and someone who won't f*** up is brought in. That's not the same as a top 6 guy. They can f*** up and get away with it

It's a double standard and it may not be fair, but it is what it is. Gus isn't out there focusing on generating offense. He's worried about positioning and puck management

Schief is focused on generating offense in addition (hopefully) to puck management and positioning.
