It is interesting how expectations change. Pre-season, the prognosticators had the Jets as a possible Wildcard team, lucky to make the playoffs. People were pushing for a minor rebuild, 'give the youth a shot'. They come out of the gate flying, and now people are pissed if they don't manhandle every team they face. 3 games in 4 days in 3 different cities...."doesn't matter, they should dominate this team!"

i think most had the Jets top-3 in their division, they brought back essentially the same team from last season that had them pacing v well prior to the tdl. i think a couple of the stats/analytics-based folks had them near the top of the league (ie Jfresh)

the minor rebuild folks were ppl on here who don't really have a clue. the Jets coming off 100+ pts, with hellebuyck in under contract & in net were never going to go rebuild.

I agree to an extent but I think it also depends are you looking big picture (i.e.) overall style of play and how some teams exploit it vs short term (i.e.) rick Ralph 10 game segments?
Making the playoffs the last few years has raised expectations. Getting tuned up and spit out as they have vs. STL., Vegas and Col in the first round has left some, such as me, perhaps not appreciating that we are lucky to have a playoff team even if they do not play a playoff style or match up well vs certain teams.
It is a marathon not a sprint that I know but I am having trouble not fast forwarding to the playoffs!
It can be complicated because no team can go 82 without injuries and other adversity, so the fact remains; having the best season doesn't always translate to playoff success. We lost to Vegas when a combination of Ehlers, Morrissey and Scheifele were injured. Not taking anything away from the cup champs that year, but we were decimated with injuries in what would have been a tough series anyway.

Right now, Ehlers, Samberg and Scheifele (even though he played) being injured for a time really hurt us. The luck to go 15-1 can't be ignored, 3 OT winners that could've gone either way, a few games we didn't deserve to win. More recently, we lose an OT game, lose a few that we didn't deserve to win, and lose a couple we did. There is so much luck involved. If we don't get that second penalty in the last minute vs Vegas, do we win? Probably.

The point is, the playoffs are a different season and when it starts you hope most of the roster is close to 90% health. And you hope they can still play by the 4th round, most can't. Edmonton came so close last year, game 7 was a last man standing contest more than anything. Guys playing with cracked ribs and sprained joints.

That's why you can't tell me right now with any authority who will win the cup. The season will give you a good idea of who as a good shot, but if you pick the winner, it's just luck.

We have a really good team, we all want to win and see a few holes in the lineup. There are a few teams that were favorites to be winners this year that are fire sales now, NY, Nashville, maybe the Canucks and Oilers. And the Jets, Capitals, and Wild were all supposed to be borderline teams. Hockey is such a dynamic sport with so many moving parts.

Peaking as a team near the end of the season is probably good. The will to win, leadership and luck are all factors.

That's a long way of saying the Jets are winning the cup this year.

I think it was a youth movement expectation before Scheif and Helle signed. It was for me anyway.

That was prior to the 2023-24 season.

I think this year, the "youth movement" suggestions were more about the idea of replacing Monahan and Dillon with Lambert and Salomonsson.

It's getting quieter and quieter here this year. More of our regulars seem to wander off and are never heard from again. Fewer people are posting.

Or .... maybe they just have jobs on a Monday morning.
With all the arguments on the board lately, who can blame them. I gave up posting my opinions on here years ago as it wasn't worth the aggravation. That's why I just post fun stuff, life's too short...

I've never seen so many posts about posters instead of hockey since I've been here. I actually thought that was one of the rules here.... that you could have an opinion, but not about posters, just hockey. It kept personal attacks to a minimum.

I've started to use the ignore function for the first time in 12 years. Hopefully the posters that are missing, have just left the board or taken time away and nothing more serious.

Winning will do that … life is good.
Losing will bring out the complaints … life is miserable.

I have an opinion about our resident cat lady! It's a positive one but she wandered off about a week ago and hasn't been heard from since. Nor has kanadalainen or alphalackey or several others who's names I don't recall since I'm in my 80s.

Now it seems like there's far fewer of us than last year. I haven't been called creepy in months and one guy mentions regressing to the mean at least once a day. Board just isn't the same lately.

Sounds like someone’s got too much time on his hands.

I still read- I do truly value many of the users and opinions presented here - and I do the prediction contest, and comment and get involved during the off-season prospect ranking threads.

Have quite a bit of apathy for the team (mostly the ownership group) as hockey is not at all a priority in my life any longer.

HF lost me during 2021 & 2022 when opinions were heavily censored and only one opinion was allowed to be presented. Haven't even been in the Canada Life Centre since February 2020.

I cheer for the players on the team for certain, but ya. I have plenty of other issues and feelings about the group profiting from my attendance. So I stay home, and really don't post much at all anymore here. Hockey, to me, is a fun distraction....but not remotely important in this Country or World with everything else going on in.

Love all the members of HF Jets. That is my final & true comment for this post.

Funny, the SAP Center doesn't look that much bigger than CLC. I guess it's only 2000 seats bigger so 13%...most of that is upper bowl I think. 2 more lower bowl rows and 5 more upper bowl rows, so about 500 in the lower bowl and 1500 in the upper bowl.

I like the alternating row colors.

I think that is where I am at. Not that anyone misses me, but I think I am done posting in GDT's.

Back when I had my season tickets (2011-COVID) we learned to avoid the Habs games.
Jets usually played poorly and seemed to ALWAYS lose (I know they didn't but it felt that way).
Plus the amount of posers in Winnipeg wearing Habs gear and colors was always disgusting.
Watching this game on TV was a sad sight in that there was more red in the stands than blue.
Some of that was Santa suits but $%^& those people for wearing that (whether it was intentional or not).

Unless you are from said city of the visiting team or have a close relative then you have no business being at a game in another teams gear. You're a waste of space...

I guess lots can change in people's lives that posting on here either isn't a priority, or for lots of reasons not fun or they just don't have time to do it. Or they just get sick of the Dude.....
