I'm happy to wrong. Not only did the Jets do it without Scheifele, but they also did it without Morrissey for most of the game. They never gave up, which seems in sharp contrast to the elimination games of the recent past.

Took a walk in the second period so I missed that part of the game. Came back and listened to the third period rather than watched as it's less stressful even with Paul Edmonds sounding like the most basic play in the neutral zone is a legit goal-scoring opportunity.

Jets sounded like they dominated from the third period on. Perhaps that is when a smaller d and overall smaller team plays a part? The longer the game goes, the more quickly the bigger players get gassed.

The shots heavily favoured the Jets for the second half of the game - third period through double overtime. It would be interesting to see what the advanced stats show for the entirety of the game. I suspect they heavily favour Winnipeg.

I said before yesterday's game that it could go one of two ways: the Jets could lose, and regardless how Hellebuyck played in game seven he would be buried under a legacy killing "playoff choke" label. Or, the Jets could rebound, Hellebuyck could redeem himself, and the team could ride that confidence and high into a deep, deep playoff drive. I think the second happened, and the fact that they did it after Hellebuyck continued to look rattled and after losing Morrissey for virtually the whole game made the win even sweeter.

The only fly in the ointment would be the long term loss (so, for most of a series or more) of either or both of Scheifele and Morrissey. My gut tells me that Scheifele will be back for Wednesday since we were teased with his return for game seven (if not for game one against Dallas then definitely for game two). Morrissey concerns me more... it kind of looked like a shoulder injury and who knows how long that may take to heal.

However, the reason to be optimistic the most, to me, is that I think the second half of game seven exercised Helle's playoff demons, reawakened our powerplay, and made everybody on the team several inches taller after overcoming such obstacles.

Your description of Edmonds is spot on.
The Jets played better team defence without Morrisey. I am not saying they are better without him but funny how that happens. St.louis also had no one left to target once he was out so that changed their strategy!

Also, as much maligned as Schenn has been since the playoffs started (some earned), I thought he had an extremely strong second half of the game. He was physical but didn't take any penalties.
It's like someone told him you have the green light to hit .. maybe it had to do with a faster partner less to worry about but you could not miss it. Regular season Schenn was back ... taking the body and hitting again.
Also big props to Tanev ... 10 hits and his were big hits too. His three game 7 experience came into play he laid it all on the line.

The third pairing of him and Stanley is just too slow and lacks transition ability. I think you can have either one in but their respecrive partners need to have some mobility and transition ability to optimize their physicality.

Still buzzing here and still just blown away that that actually happened. I feel for Blues fans being less than 2 seconds away from moving on.

...but not all THAT much!

Agree.

IMO subbing in Fleury meant an instant upgrade in overall mobility and speed of transition for the pairing, and made it far more complete and effective. Suddenly Luke ("Schenn" reminds me too much of Brayden) had freedom to be more physical and focus on netfront and corners without the need to cover for his D partner, because Fleury is reliable in transition and can either carry or pass it out.

I've thought for ages that D at this level is more about the sum of the pairing than the individual parts. Fleury/ Luke looked like a much bigger number. Thought they were excellent and Fleury in particular added a significant dimension in terms of his ability to carry efficiently with the speed to track back if needed.

Zackly this, said in far fewer words than my post above...

It was interesting hearing Lowry's comments on TNT post game. (post #522 video)
Lowry mentioned it he didn't like Schenn running at the Jets and he wanted to response but Arneil basically told him to stick to the plan. Arneil probably knew the refs would single Lowry out.
I also noticed Lowry must have been getting IV between periods with the bandaid on his arm in the post game comments.
Yeah I noticed the bandage too. Is that par for the course in OT to get these guys fluids and electrolytes right into their veins between periods?

I had to go full stealth mode to make it home (driving from the Kildonans to River Heights) avoiding any possible spoilers.
Get my kid to bed and then watch the 2nd OT not knowing.
By the time I watched I could see how much time the file had so as we got late into the period I knew it would end any minute.
Every single time the puck moved towards our end or we had a d-zone faceoff I cringed.

I only have to avoid Instagram/YouTube and pray my Chromecast doesn't give me a thumbnail spoiler so the thought of you driving through suburban backstreets to avoid seeing people celebrating is incredibly amusing.
