If I was given an opportunity to tell one joke on national television as a comedian that is an opportunity of a lifetime.

It might not be the best, but, I better be ready to do everything I can with that 30 seconds. It might not go my way, but, I wouldn’t be able to say I didn’t get an opportunity....

Comedy= Multiple "tragic performances + time", even for the best of them

"You have to stand there and bomb for three years and think they don’t get it”-- Steve Martin.

If I'm managing the Jets, as long as we have a clear hold on #1 in the central I'm resting guys who are banged up to get some of our depth, which we will need in the playoffs, some games. But I probably ride this win streak as long as it will go first.

What if we pull ahead of Caps and are in Presidents Trophy territory? Its not the Stanley Cup tournament winner but it is the winner of the 82 game season.

Yeah I thought about that. But given our recent playoff performances, and that this feels like it could finally be the year, I would go all-in on whatever it takes to go far in the post season. Even if it means sacrificing our chances at the President's Trophy.

Other than a fancy banner, nobody talks about who won the President's Trophy.

Stanley still need to clean up a few parts of his game. He struggles to decide when to hit and how to hit. Yesterday he had a few hits where he took it just a bit too far and they were possible uncalled penalties. Because of his height he needs to be careful and he needs to quit using the too firm cross check to the back around the boards. Also rule number one of hitting is don’t take yourself out of position to hit unless you have forward support or you can get their early enough to kill the play.

Also on St Louis’s go ahead goal he had position in front of our net but for some unknown reason he abounded to join Miller on a board battle, but as Thomas exited that battle with the puck and curled back on the boards away from danger Stanley needed to get back his net front spot but instead he chased Thomas towards the opposite wall of his assignment (almost like a weird 5 v 5 man to man move) and Thomas was able to exploit that with a cross ice pass to a wide open Buchnevich before the forwards could reset? Thomas wasn’t a danger and Connor could have slid down to pressure him “if need be”?

Two seconds before this photo Stanley was standing right in front of the net in perfect position to cut off the passing lane to Buch??

Either way he had a decent game playing up for his talent level.

That's the problem with Stanley ... he chases a player into the boards and gets caught out of position. I was ok with this at first calling it a learning experience but it been how many years and he continues to do it ... his hockey IQ is not his his strong suit. For 23 plus minutes Stanley was ok for a 3rd pairing but Demelo is the one who imo was exposed and did not look good for a 1st pairing D man or maybe just an off game. Nothing really to complain about the two week layoff you can expect mistakes I saw it in a lot of games yesterday ... bottom line the Jets win not playing their A game.

I'd settle for 1st in the West and then start giving guys some games off. Not too many though, you don't want to go into the playoffs too rested.

As long as Stanley pins his man when he takes him into the boards and ensures that he has support when he does it (to prevent an odd man situation), then it's a good play.

He still hasn't mastered that read though, and that's where he gets into trouble

Does anyone really care who wins the Presidents Trophy ... heck I don't even remember who won it last year?
Any player who has a minor injury I would sit and I would roll 4 lines to keep the minutes down too.
The rest of the Jets schedule is pretty good only this week and the one at the end of March is where they play 4 games in a week ... all the other weeks only 3 games a week so that's a bonus.
As long as there's no major injuries everything is lining up sweet for the Jets to make a long playoff run.

True - but the only ones who REALLY remember who won the Cup are the winners and their fans. Strain my memory a bit and I remember Flawda winning last year but probably only because of Maurice. And I will still soon forget.

The argument has been made that the PC is the real championship. The argument has merit, 82 games vs max 28 games, etc. But everyone still feels more like the SC is the real thing, me included. But that PC banner would be nice to have.

Its the old bird in hand vs 2 in the bush thing.

Its tricky. TNSE are persistently committed to making Logan work to replace Dillon’s size toughness so let’s hope he keeps improving. Realistically he is going to be playing 3rd pairing sheltered. I would prefer they keep him away from the PK but yesterday was tough because it was 4 minutes with Pionk in the box (who PK’s).

Somehow it’s all working and we are shockingly at +69 in goal differential so I am trying to not let Logan distract me too much (trying being the operative word).

He has been gradually playing better. But I think his best play comes against weaker opposition. Better, faster teams still blow by him and/or pressure him into poor decisions, poor plays. He is not going to be adequate in the PO.
I think this is the biggest issue I have with anyone saying Stan is fine as our 6th D, and yeah he is fine in the regular season because clearly we are doing quite well despite him being our 6th D man, but we cannot have him as our 6th D man come playoffs, we have already seen that play out and it has been a disaster and will be again unless we can find someone to bump him out of the line up come TDL.

Speaking of Presidents Trophy .... NYR won it last year, IIRC, and look at them now. Apparently what happened was some pretty sudden and maybe early aging out of key players. And maybe some other stuff.

Jets could do something similar. I don't think it would be so much aging out but we have a lot of pending FAs. If we lose too many of them, or the wrong ones and add another year to a few players we could be in trouble next year. Another reason to go for it this year. It could be our last best chance for quite a while.

It’s a great question.

I think at its most extreme and for allot of fans it is cup or bust.

Does anyone really care who was runner up in the Stanley cup and crying on the ice when the cup is getting passed out? There are no silver medals in the NHL. Does anyone remember who won different rounds? Usually yes the teams that accomplished it seem to have a mix of joy and agony from advancing in the playoffs but falling short like 31 other teams. I have very mixed emotions of our one and only run in the playoffs. Enjoyed beating Minnesota but that was expected. LOVED beating the top team in the league in Nashiville, that was amazing and I will always remember it. Still can’t believe we lost to that Vegas team……WTF? I have not gotten over it yet and never fully will.

When I look more directly at your question I think hey Jets 1.0 and 2.0 have been in existence for 29 or 30 seasons and we have won our division once in the playoffs, and that has been the top of our mountain. We have never finished first in the regular season in our division, conference, or the league. Where I land is I wouldn’t play players that need a rest to try to win a presidents trophy or division but if we do happen to finish first in an 82 games schedule for the division, conference, or lord help us the league, I think it would be pretty cool. I would look back on it one day saying that was a really impressive regular season.

I think most people care tbh. If your team makes it to the finals it is a big deal, that doesn't happen very often, even for the best teams. Maybe it's just because I'm a Jets fan and they've never made it that far, but I would be extremely proud, as I was of the 2018 run.

Vesalainen (is) and Heinola (may yet be) first round Finnish busts for the Jets. They may think

One of the benefits of us following a team that is #1 overall is that our quibbles will be smaller.
Maybe its time to stick with drafting Canadian players first, than US and than Russian players especially in the first round. Nothing wrong with drafting Fins/Sweds just if they are not top tier don't waste the picks.

That’s so weird. I never wrote that first part about Finns, lol. But it was in my post for some reason!!

Yea I think it’s pretty personal and to each their own I guess. There is no right or wrong answer.

Hey! That backup to the backup goalie was not Hellebuyck. Who was he and where did he come from?

Edit: Kahkonen! Well, if you are giving Helle an extra day of rest give him a day of rest.
Helly didn't even fly to St. Louis. He came straight home after the 4 Nations cup.
