Do you call 12 minutes on the third pairing after sitting for 5 weeks the opportunity of a lifetime?
Did Kyle Connor have the opportunity of a lifetime on the US team and blow it? How about Helle in the playoffs?

NHL hockey doesn't work that way. There is a lot of randomness in short samples, not to mention the confidence-rattling effect of coaches having made up their minds. I don't buy that Connor wasn't skilled enough for the USA team or that Heinola would not be flourishing if given Stan's minutes.

I sound like a broken record, but Heinola just needs to get out of Winnipeg and that is, no doubt, the message Chevy has been hearing, discreetly, from agent, for a while now. The Jets have decided that size=toughness=success=Stan and will live or die by that.
If I was given an opportunity to tell one joke on national television as a comedian that is an opportunity of a lifetime.

It might not be the best, but, I better be ready to do everything I can with that 30 seconds. It might not go my way, but, I wouldn’t be able to say I didn’t get an opportunity. I can’t then look over at Kevin and say he got a whole 5 minutes to show his thing.
Kyle Connor is already living the dream I think being a regular in the show I could be wrong.

If you were managing the Jets, would you start giving guys extra rest here and there, or do you believe that it might mess with the vibe?

I'm on the fence, but the added value here is you could give the black aces some reps in case they are needed.

We can call it whatever we want. It’s about making the most of ur opportunities and not looking at what the next guy gets because life ain’t fair.,
This is 100% true

Stanley asked to be traded a season or so ago and the Jets did not grant the request. They see something and if he plays within himself and not over do it on the ice he is adequate as a 6th, at least the Jets seem to think so. Is that good enough, apparently atm it is.
He was drafted 6 or 7th
Or he’s 6’7”
I can’t remember :sarcasm:

Outside of his goal he was pretty bad all night.

I still don't get the criticism for Pionk on the first holding penalty. No way you let a guy go in totally uncontested, you take the penalty and hope to kill it off. The second penalty was just ridiculous.

Heinola was pretty awful. Stanley played well but did a couple of incredibly stupid things.

Overall the team looked rusty af.

Stanley still need to clean up a few parts of his game. He struggles to decide when to hit and how to hit. Yesterday he had a few hits where he took it just a bit too far and they were possible uncalled penalties. Because of his height he needs to be careful and he needs to quit using the too firm cross check to the back around the boards. Also rule number one of hitting is don’t take yourself out of position to hit unless you have forward support or you can get their early enough to kill the play.

Also on St Louis’s go ahead goal he had position in front of our net but for some unknown reason he abounded to join Miller on a board battle, but as Thomas exited that battle with the puck and curled back on the boards away from danger Stanley needed to get back his net front spot but instead he chased Thomas towards the opposite wall of his assignment (almost like a weird 5 v 5 man to man move) and Thomas was able to exploit that with a cross ice pass to a wide open Buchnevich before the forwards could reset? Thomas wasn’t a danger and Connor could have slid down to pressure him “if need be”?

Two seconds before this photo Stanley was standing right in front of the net in perfect position to cut off the passing lane to Buch??

Either way he had a decent game playing up for his talent level.

That looks like a pretty clean rotation to me, except Miller gets tackled behind the net and can’t get back in front in time.

If you are looking for mistakes in a players’ game, you will always find them.

I'm just honestly tired of the Stanley debate. The org has thrown their lot in with him and he's going to be in the lineup if healthy.

He's also largely had a pretty solid year for us.

Ville hasn't gotten a legit opportunity but he's really not competing against Stanley. They play different roles in the mind of the coach. Ville is competing against JoMo and Pionk for the puck moving/PP role and he's not going to win that competition.

I hope he's able to get moved to somewhere that needs his skillset as it's not really needed here. The Jets will value two/way with size more to backfill behind JoMo and Pionk which is exactly what Salomonsson brings to the table.

Pulled a Mac myself last night, zonked out midway through the second until the end of the third and caught the OT!

Team was rusty but pulled it out.

Poor tiny got crunched big time last night, sorry but guys his size can't play effectivly in the NHL unless they are super skilled, super fast or stocky as heck...he lacks all three traits!

Wish Chevy would stop drafting bantam sized guys!

A few more shout outs

KC with 10 shots on net which is crazy (granted half them might have been at 3 on 3) and a beauty game winning snipe in the shoot out!!

Perfetti picking up right where he left off. If he has fought through to the next level this is very helpful for us and the second line heading into the post season. He seems way more confident and aggressive.

One more shout out to Comrie, our first few minutes at 3 on 3 were an adventure to say the least and Schief wasn’t even picking up a man on D (WTF Mark  ). I really thought Eric channeled his inner Binnington and stood tall when our team needed him most on 3 on 3 and in the shoot out.

Shout out to Arniel and his hand picked coaching staff. How good have they been this season!

Really on my “it’s all about the journey” tour 24-25 I wasn’t expecting the Jets to be having this type regular season journey.

Yes

Yes

I didn't think the Jets defense (or offense) did Hellebuyck many favors in the playoffs.

If I'm managing the Jets, as long as we have a clear hold on #1 in the central I'm resting guys who are banged up to get some of our depth, which we will need in the playoffs, some games. But I probably ride this win streak as long as it will go first.

No Helle? No problem!
No JoMo? No problem!
Terrible reffing? No problem!
Connor benched in the championship game? Game winning shot here!
Comrie was pretty solid tonight, Heinola looked iffy.
Overall the team was rusty but gutsy, great way to win against the odds!
Heinola looked good to me, great puck retrieval and passing. Stanley on the other hand, he is so bad. 2 on 1 pinch on the first goal. That was so bad

So trying to hack how I was able to turn the franchise around from my 40 year hatred of golf to loving it, drum roll please for the strategy for being at peace with the Jets:

Phase 1- It’s all about the journey tour (going way to well in its first season) but what does that mean to me (personalized)

Reality check phase- The cup is probably not happening in my life time so let that go. It won’t make it any less amazing if it happens but get the focus where it belongs. On the joy of day to day life with all its ups and downs as a Jets fan. Stop worrying about what we need to do to get a cup.

Most recent add on: Don’t worry about Stanley, it’s not his fault, he’s just a bottom pairing dude. Arniel and company have made their call so find piece with it.

Playoffs Smayoffs. If we do well “great”, if we suck again roll with it.

TNSE are human and have made some really stupid mistakes. Don’t hold a grudge and keep buying tickets because you know what, I love going to live NHL games and to keep it hear I need to keep buying tickets. Commit to giving feedback like @blues10 does. He is the model of how to work within the system to drive improvement.

When the big 3 age out (Helle, Josh, Schief) don’t worry. The Jets will go through a stretch where we are picking in the top 10 again for a while and that was fun the first time around so learn to embrace the journey for whatever it is. Its always going to be live NHL and it was a blast when we were a team getting about 80-90 points and it will remain fun.

NHL being in Winnipeg is the championship win, the rest is just noice.

There is room on my bandwagon (well it’s more like hot dog cart outside the old Pal on portage…..on a 30 below night in January….).

The giant hole in your logic is that results from small sample sizes are always opposite of what they should be if given a large enough smaple

Small sample sizes end up being accurate, too. It's the certainty of any conclusion that can't be trusted, not the conclusion itself

Might of been the booze but that cart dog with mustard dripping down on my jacket as I walked to my car was the best dog ever

Oh I could find a million but once Miller was down and out and Thomas carried the puck away from danger Stanley needs to get back in position in my opinion. This one stuck out at the time when I was watching it in real time.

It was never bad was it

How tough did the guy need to be banging out that shift outdoors

He has been gradually playing better. But I think his best play comes against weaker opposition. Better, faster teams still blow by him and/or pressure him into poor decisions, poor plays. He is not going to be adequate in the PO.

Will Heinola be gone at the TD? Or will Chevy hold onto him for depth?

Heinola for Maatta? We would need to add but that might be a conversation starter. It might not need much more than that.
