Post-Game Talk: Jets 3 - Caps 2 in OT

Wow. How dare you say I am not a fan. I think your concept of what a fan is and what mine is are totally different. It is probably best to leave it at that. I do not need to defend myself or my takes against such a heinous accusation. I can take being called closet leaf fan but not being called a non-Jet fan. Moreover, I can want them to win but still think they will lose.

You've been calling them down all season waiting for them to fail even though they have been in first or second place for almost the whole season. You cover your back by saying you are a fan and wishing that they win because then you will have said oh I wished they would win. You are right though, we have different definitions of a fan.
I am disillusioned becsuse of the past 2 playoff debacles.
This has been a stellar regular season but I refuse to get to excited until they show they can do this in the playoffs.

Stanley's been fine with Miller all year. He's almost certainly reached his ceiling (6-7 dman with the warts that entails) but in that role, he's mostly been fine.

It'd be nice if the Jets had put a little more effort into trying other options (or upgrading at the deadline), but between Stanley and Fleury, Stanley's been better.

He's been fine the last two games...Maybe he did get better in the pressbox! ;)
Man, this opinion sounds familiar

Is there a poster on here who has being saying this all season, but has been largely roasted for doing so?

The reality is that you are a Leaf fan pretending to be a Jet Fan...
Yup, that is me. How did you know. In fact every jet game I go to I wear my leaf boxers and socks. Cmon bro I am here to analyze and blow off steam about the Jets. I admit if I am wrong and never gloat if I am right.

You may have had a point about the ignore feature.

The board has eased up on stan because theres no other option now. Not a signal for one poster to pat himself on the back if the rest of us now choose to gloss over his glaring faults.

Lets just hope the third pairing is schenn-miller for round 1... and we can debate pionks play in the post season

Ellette was not favorite or hated by the Jets fan.
He does what he do best

as one of the JETS FAV 4 Defensemen as they called them before.

Housley
Numminen
Ellett
Oulasson

Dave Ellett double OT GWG 1990, game 4. What could have been for the Jets that year.

Next season Hawerchuk goes to Buffalo, and Dave Ellett was traded to Toronto.

Ellett would still be my #1 for 1.0. Housley put up more points, but Ellett was the kind of defenseman who could win in the playoffs.

Freddy O was a whipping boy like tyler myers was because they played the same style of chaos

Stan is more equivalent to ulanov or bautin because of the massive hype at first and then crushing reality of blah... dont think you can call that whipping boy if its just the truth

Ray neufeld... now theres a guy that was scorched probably unfairly

Ellett did everything really well. A true 1D in times where defense was suspect at best 🤣

I'd put Babych in the loved category as well

If only I was a pessimist not a realist but thank you for a great quote.

I'd say it is pessimism since your predictions haven't happened yet. Fans can be pessimistic, you don't have to be sunshine and rainbows to be a fan of a team. In fact, many NFL fans I know are major pessimists, same as baseball. But that doesn't mean people are going to enjoy reading your stuff or interact with you in a certain way.

Was it me? Was I that poster? I've been saying for a while that Stanley-Miller has been fine.

Yes, everyone seems to agree that Stanley is a borderline bottom pairing guy and there's not much of an expectation that he'll ever be more than that.

Miller's probably the better player since he's good both with and without Stanley and, while Stanley+Miller has been a decent 3rd pair, Stanley without Miller has not been very good.

Yeah I don't know why they keep FAFO-ing with pulling Miller in and out to see what Stanley looks like with anyone else, when they should really be pulling Stanley in and out to see what everyone else looks like with Miller.

That 90% GF seems like a certain regression candidate. Hopefully it doesn't all happen in mid to late April...

And Stanley+Miller is the only combo that's worked well this year that includes Logan Stanley. Now we're going to mess that up?

I do worry that there'll be pressure to make Stanley-Schenn happen when they've already got a functional 3rd pairing in Stanley-Miller. If they try and it doesn't work out, will they recognize that mistake and make changes? That certainly hasn't been the Jets style to date. But maybe Schenn helps on the PK...?
I'm still a bit worried that when Pionk returns, we'll see a Stanley-Schenn bottom pairing for the playoffs.

Dude, you were borderline mocking me for even implying Stanley was an adequate 6/7 dman for the regular season and that him and Miller were an ok bottom pair at the time (despite every metric pointing to that).

Remember the "being on thr ice for goals for and against is just a matter of luck" line of argument you had?

That said, it's admirable when people change their opinions based on the information available. We should all strive to do it more often (yeah, including myself lol)

I don't see a Stanley - Schenn bottom pairing as being in anyone's best interest... I've said all along that in order to make a deep run, Stanley would need to be upgraded. I made the mistake of just assuming that upgrade would come from acquiring a better LHD, and I was surprised they didn't get one at the deadline

But it looks like the org had a different idea... get a guy that brings the same thing they want from Stanley on their back end on the right side, then pair that with a better lefty - they handed that ball to Fleury, but it looks like he's fumbling it - which is a little surprising, considering how he impressed me at the start of the season

Neuf the Goof!

Was there ever a Jet like Stanley in the original Jets 1.0? Not singling anyone out here, but for a 6-7 D man I'm not sure I've seen so much discussion. With Stanley it seems to be there whether he plays or not.

Who was the Jets 1.0 whipping boy?
There were a few, but most of them could fight so they had another role: Shawn Cronin, Jim Kyte. The one that might fit is Wade Campbell, but mostly because he was a bottom pair D that wasn't a fighter.
