God, every morning I look at the NHL standings, and while it gives me great joy to see us right at the tippy top of the standings, the thing i marvel at is our GF GA GD.

What a f***ing season.

Our two TDL acquisitions looks shrewd AF right now. Tanev just brings a while new dimension to this team. We've had some decent motors on the 4th line since Tanev, but guys like Kupari and to a lesser extent AJF just don't have that bite and consistency to their game. Tanev is a true disruptor, doesn't take nary a second off, and has some sneaky skill. He really doesn't look like he's lost anything since he left.

Schenn is a guy who knows exactly what his limitations are and he has figured out how to adapt his play to mitigate them by positioning and smart reads. Admittedly i don't watch many teams outside of the Jets, so I really didn't understand just how much he's changed his game. He's still heavy af so as an opposing player you have to think of that, but he doesn't take himself out of the play to hit, he uses it as a tool and a hockey play. Morrissey said he transformed his game after he looked like he was done, and he was right. I was thoroughly impressed with his puck management and smart little plays.

Logan Stanley should be watching very closely. If he can adapt his play like Luke did, he could become very effective, and consistently.

I sure hope they give Fleury a little run here, but I'm pretty sure Stanley will be in next game.

You can see how Tanev and Schenn are going to help the pk. We're already decent and improving there, with our pp being #1 and our pk being top third, our special teams should be a real benefit in the playoffs.

We needed that. Friday is a massive game, need the win to keep Dallas well in the rear view mirror.

I liked Schenn's game, gritty and made the correct and simple plays. A vet that knows his game and what he's capable of.

Fleury was a bit all over the map. Think his game has fallen off a bit after a good start with us. My guess is Stanley is in next game.

I like the play of the rest of the d core tonight as well.

Top line wasn't super noticeable tonight. I thought KC stunk tonight and compounded things by constantly over extending shifts and making sloppy plays.

Second line had a good game. Cole really has gotten his game going the second half. True to junior he gets better the longer the season goes. Namestnikov and Ehlers also really strong.

I'm really digging that fourth line, they just hound and turn over pucks. They also have enough skill to bang some goals in. I forgot what it's like to have an effective shot disturber in Tanev. I've liked what he's brought. So far so good for Barron in the middle.

Third line with typical strong third line game.

It looked like the Rangers really pre-scouted our PP. On the second unit they had a player dropped on Cole and on Pionk knowing everything goes through them. Our top unit also couldn't get anything going until Perfettinwent in for Ehlers and it opened up a different play.
I'm concerned that four nations really threw Connor off his game. He's just not been the same since, and its throwing the whole line off.

Kupari was a healthy scratch I just saw (haven’t seen much hockey lately).

So the Jets prefer Barron as 4C over Kupari? Why?
A few reasons in my mind:

1> Kupari was banged up last game (bell rung) so why push him if you don't have to?
2> Barron is far more physical than Kupari
3> Barron has better finish than Kupari
4> Barron is a better penalty killer

Its so great that we have two centers in the black access that i dont think any of us would worry about putting in the lineup. What a luxury.

It is a bit concerning though that if we lose 55 or 7 things get dicey down the middle. Lowry could slide up, maybe put Barron between apples and Nino, and Gus or Kupari draws in on the fourth, but its less than ideal

Just watched the highlights. Was that goalie interference as call weak as it looked or did I miss something?

Getting the 2 points is huge, have to keep winning. The two games against the Stars are going to be massive.

I don't think anyone necessarily had a poor game. The second line looked good again, all 3 seemed to be clicking. The new fourth line looked like they were doing exactly what was asked as well. Getting hard in on the forecheck and putting in some high energy / high physical shifts. Barron hasn't looked too bad at centre as well in a small sample size.

If Schenn can provide some additional physicality on the backend, that will be welcome in the playoffs.

On the disallowed goal? Barron's skate did catch Shesterkin's leg. Arniel said in the post game it was legit. He would have challenged too.
Yup, at first I didn't see but after a few replays you could clearly see it. Stay out of the crease and he probably still can't stop the shot and the goal counts

Yeah I saw that as well. His skate definitely impacted the goalies ability to get set. It was a good challenge and goal reversal. We wouldn't have been happy if that counted if the same happened against us.

Yeah, it seemed the tournament really messed with his confidence.

He was flying going into it and then saw his role diminish throughout leading ro hin being benched.

I think we mostly see these types of events as ego boosts to players but if things don't go as expected individually the opposite can happen as well.

For whatever reason Conner just doesn't get a fair shake for team USA.

They asked Arniel and he said no just leaning on Tanev and Iafallo late in a tight game.
I love that.

Personally, I'd like to see less of the top line when we have a tight lead near the end of the game. They just end up running around in our zone for a minute anyways.

I'd remake the lines somewhat if we are leading in the second half of the third, maybe something like:

Nino Schiefele Tanev
Ehlers Lowry Barron
Iafallo Namestnikov Appleton

Run three lines. Just for the playoffs.

The added benefit is it would keep Connor Perfetti and Vilardi fresher

I think he'll play his way out of it. He has been incredibly consistent in his career for a guy of his play style.

Connor also doesn't seem like the type to let things like that impact him negatively

After being left off the WJC roster in college, he went on to light the NCAA up... almost seemed like a big "f*** you" to USA Hockey

I think part of what we're seeing with the Jets post 4 Nations is partially them but also, the league always tightens up down the stretch. A bunch of these teams we're playing are fighting for their playoff lives. Time and space is harder to come by

Yeah, there's also an expected letdown. Leading up to the tourney, you are excited and motivated, but when you come back it's almost like the dog days, especially for the Jets who's only real motivation is first overall. Not saying that's nothing but it can't compare to fighting to make the playoffs.
