He did look, just a stride or two before the pass. He was clearly anticipating that Schmidt would be there. The Sharks player jumped in between them. Maybe Stan should have seen that developing or maybe Schmidt should have had better position. Or maybe just credit the Sharks player with a good read and a good play. Maybe a little of all 3.
It's just that i have seen that exact same play several times in his career, and you can see the opponent fading in behind the net in anticipation, particularly in earlier years. The opposition knows that Stan is slow and likes to to use the boards and can b e hurried. The expression on Stan's face tells me he knows he did the same bad again. He needs to look where he passes behind the net because that type of play is popular, and many goals have been scored in the same fashion now as the game has speeded up. Your comments are all valid, however, and it could of happened as you say but i saw it differently.
