Who's actually in charge of the powerplay Out of RBA, Jeff Daniels, and Tim Gleason I don't think any of them are the least bit qualified.

It’s gotta be Rod. Tripp mentioned it again the other night that Daniels doesn’t run it.

Everything I've been told is that Daniels is responsible for the PP. But it does raise the question that if Daniels doesn't run the PP, what DOES he do on the coaching staff?

This is where someone in the front office really needs to step in and start micromanaging Rod's coaching. It sucks to have to come to that but Rod clearly lacks the self awareness here that a part of the reason we've kept coming up short in the playoffs has been the PP, and he's responsible for that. If he can't fix it himself then he needs someone else to try it (i.e. an outside perspective PP coach hire). I don't buy the roster construction excuse or the "it's the players" argument. I've seen plenty of teams with worse players than us have better PP success in the playoffs recently.

This year should probably be the kick in the ass he needs. In prior years if you look at it in totality it was always at worst above average. This year it’s been complete ass for 3/4 of the season.

I’ll push back on the idea that Rod is unqualified to run the PP. he’s obviously a good coach who happened to score 397 points on the power play in his career (66th all time). He very well may be bad at it, but that doesn’t make him unqualified. Now Gleason? Yes, very unqualified- and also very well qualified to run a PK.

While being perhaps my favourite player and hockey person of all time, Rod is perhaps one of the least creative offensive players to score anywhere near the amount of points that he did in his career. Can we call up Dr. Recchi, Doug Weight, or Cory Stillman from the 06 team and see if they want to play some golf in Raleigh for a while?

We dont have the PP QB nor guys that one time superbly.

Watching caps-jets and jets PP works because they have a great PP QB, they move in the zone and they have guys like Connors that have a great one-timers.

We don’t have anyone with an above average NHL PP one-timer. Nadeau has the shot but RBA feels he doesn’t have an nhl build yet (I agree).

That too. Of course Canes could use the position for x &o’s in PP and playoffs when our special teams go to blank.

For what it's worth, the PP has been looking a lot better lately. Obviously, getting the goals have helped, but even when they don't score, they're getting zone time and chances, which was more we could say the last 2 months

Agreed. But coaching aside, we still need a different profile of player(s) on the PP

I have actually thought it was been gradually looking better for a few weeks, but yeah the start of the slump it was awful and than I think ever miss they got close on actually made them grip their sticks tighter.

Based on history and their resumes, as much as past statements about RBA not being a strong "X's and O's coach" and Daniels being a long-time AHL HC...I've always assumed at some level that Daniels job is some permutation of Asst. HC, XO of the coaching staff, and X's and O's guy.

Or...if you prefer a Star Trek metaphor, he's the Riker to RBA's Picard. Rod says "Make it so!" and Daniels makes it so.

The only way we'll ever know though is if Rod ever gets himself tossed out of a game and see if Daniels takes over running the bench the rest of the game.
