But, it's not.

Been saying this for a while. The primary deficit on this team is overall talent.

You can coach, elevate play, squeeze every ounce of talent from the players and if Wayne Gretzky in his prime is going up against Rico Fata, I am betting on Gretzky. Even if Gretzky is being coached by Dan Bylsma.

Tough to get me to not watch the Penguins, but I haven't watched a full game since like game 4.

We have hit full Pittsburgh Pirates mode.

Primary deficit is the coach. He's struggle to make the playoffs with most rosters.

The nice thing about election season over the past week or so: it made me forget the Pittsburgh Penguins were playing games.

That basically sums up my feelings about this team at this point.

Either way, I think everyone knows Sullivan isn't going anywhere and that's why there's not as much ranting in gdts/pgts as there was last year or the year before. There used to be some hope that he'd be gone. But now there's none.

Mate I am legitimately having a hard time not posting an entire rant loaded with expletives about how much Mike Sullivan sucks.

I am trying to find something to latch on to and hope for…

So far…
  • Blomqvist keeps getting games so he can be in the Calder conversation, would be nice since the last one was what Guentzel after Murray and before that Staal and maybe Maatta or Marino for a little bit?
  • Hopes that Puljujarvi is used more so he can keep blowing up this season.
  • Puustinen actually gets proper usage.
  • Glass being used in the bottom 6 where he needs to be to grow as a player, 4th line mainly would be the best situation for him yet he keeps getting f***ed around and is now hurt.
  • DOC gets his game back on track, defensively he’s been dreadful, offensively he’s showing a lot but I think he’s picked up all of Rust’s bad habits because on the PK he’s fantastic and shows he’s still got it, but at ES he’s emulating Rust where his defensive coverage is so lacking at ES unless he’s with Eller and used in a 3rd line role.
  • Karlsson keeps having better games in a row so dipshits like Yohe can eat more shit looking like clowns blaming him for something bad during games he’s great in, obviously no one was tonight lol.
  • WBS being a bright spot with a coach that has his head on straight, hearing Kirk after games and how he thinks in a developmental role just gives me hope that when Sully is fired, there’s going to be a good push of players getting great guidance from him.
  • I know you lot hate it but Jarry having a 4-0 run in WBS being fantastic there where he’s never put up numbers like that and gaining confidence, I am with you lot - believe me - I AM WITH YOU that he needs to get traded, but I still think he’s got that great version of himself in him and hope he gets moved to get back to that as both sides need to move on for sure, let’s leave it at that, he’s a good lad working his ass off to get back to his game, let’s be happy that someone on this team that has crumbled that hard is pushing for that and not giving up.
  • Malkin and his 500th goal was a very happy moment for me as a huge Geno fan and in the group of Pens fans that feel Geno has always been shafted as a Penguin and deserves far more praise than he’s gotten and continues to not get.
  • The PK is 7th in the league, Graves plays a good 1:30+ on it per game, I wish more would give him credit but he also gets played like shit by Sullivan & Co, so we will never know if he can really handle more while playing better.
  • The PK with Eller & Doc has been great, always feel like they’re good for a scoring chance but the unfortunate part is that momentum is wasted by Sullivan’s coaching the rest of the way.
  • Geno being a beast this season with his skating, being engaged etc when he’s at C, as a Winger that’s not fun to watch Malkin basically turning into a support winger to get Sid points so fairweather Pens fans can be excited for Sid getting points while the team sucks and Sid’s game sucks.
The shit I don’t want to think about anymore…
  • Mike Sullivan as the coach of this team.
  • FSG as owners of this team.
  • Tom Werner and FSG forcing positive shit only stated about Mike Sullivan.
  • Matt Grzelcyk
  • Kris Letang and the minutes he keeps getting - they play him like a top pairing D-man that he hasn’t been where he’s playing 23+ and getting 2+ on the PK and PP as well as 18+ at ES, that’s piss poor management of his minutes.
  • Jarry being on this team, it causes so much negative shit, he could come back and play very well while the team continues to suck and he’d still be the focus when he shouldn’t be, the focus should be him playing well so he can be traded without giving up better assets or being a compliance buyout - they need him to play well even if this team sucks and in enough games to get interest from teams like Colorado, San Jose (Vanacek and Blackwood are mostly ass and Askarov is their future, but they need a buffer and not destroy Smith and Cellebrini with a losing culture this early) - Both teams have goalies the Pens can take on that have 1yr left and be fine doing as well as another cap dump to make what they give up with Jarry even less (Avs mostly) - like Georgiev + Miles of Wood + Rags 2nd for Jarry + Puustinen + Wild 3rd + Sens 3rd this year - So Pens have a 2nd back, they can add more picks later with Eller, Acciari, Pettersson, Grzelcyk, etc. That’s if Jarry comes up and plays well enough to get that interest, I hope he does, that’s what we all should hope for. Wood is whatever, he’s big and fast, at best he figures it out with someone on this team or at worst he’s on par with the rest that play under Sullivan and since he’s NA and big, Sully will use him anyway.
  • Mike Sullivan as a coach of this team.
  • Overplaying Ned when it should be a better split between the two goalies, sure Blomqvist played a couple in a row while Ned was hurt, but to sit Joel for 5 games to finally play in a back to back vs a hot team is absolutely stupid and this is what Sullivan does with the goalie rotation, he sets them up to fail and as much as I want to see them fail hard to see Sullivan fired, not at the expense of Joel Blomqvist, so at worst I hope for a 3-0 loss where Caps control the play entirely and make the Pens look like jokes.
  • Acciari f***s off with an injury for the rest of the season, he’s so f***ing bland, he gets praised for the dumbest shit, it’s like when Archibald would throw a random useless hit type of shit. Acciari’s individual game is crap and he’s still over used by Sullivan up and down the line-up, it’s frustrating, I don’t want to dislike Acciari but he’s a player they should be rotating in not some teflon regular.

We've been very lucky, but it is what it is. Some can argue this should have started last season or the one before, some still wanted to give a last push for 71 and 87, but we all knew we were cooked. Now, we can only hope and pray that KD doesn't f*** it up!
