Player Discussion Jeremy Swayman

This was the entire argument for not giving him 55-65 game/yr money. I hate being right, but, it is what it is.
Maybe he'll have a bounce back year in 25-26. Especially is they split the games 50/50 in the regular season.
It's one thing to get beat because your D fails you, but to miss shots with direct vision is unacceptible at the NHL starter level. This is on him.

All we can do now is hope that he rebounds next year and actually resembles an NHL goalie. Management should have let him sit but they unfortunately caved and now we’re stuck with him until the end of time.

What last night proved is possibly showing that he can’t play the bulk of games and needs to have a more even split with another goalie
Correct and that was one of the points being made was that he never has carried the load, and they paid him anyways. Why do I get the feeling without any inside info, but that Sweeney pushed for this contract, and Neely was ready to dig in his heels, recognizing he had the leverage, play or get paid.

Trade him is the best medicine, he was the contributing factor to the this split in the lockeroom. Move on from him.

I agree. Swayman had 1 playoff series win and shit the bed in game 7 in 2023. Never played more than 42 games in a season and should have been offered a bridge deal at 2 years at 4.5 to 5 million a season. That is a prove it to me contract

I do not believe he would have signed that contract, but it would have been a benefit to add to the roster in front of him. Sweeney, should have signed him before he lost all leverage when he moved Ullmark, I know there a timeline with Ullmark has far as his no trade protection, but Swayman contract should have been settled well before any deadlines. Swayman needs to be moved just to get out from under that contract, some say a 1st, I say get what you can without retainment, and go with a goalie rotation, does not matter who the goaltenders are if you have nothing in front of them.

Not sure anyone would want him. Who would be your starting goalie next season?

You need to upgrade this roster, what is filling out this roster in front of any goalie is just not acceptable. Do you want to get stuck with Swaymans, contract for another seven years, not me. You have Korpisalo, and maybe DePietro, but an 8.2 mil goalie, just does not cut it when you have your top two defenseman, with health concerns, your offense is dismal, and your prospect pool, is nonexistent in my estimation, and I hope some young players that Sweeney got at the TDKL, might surprise, but that is not enough. Sweeney, will have to make a push in FA, and don't get stupid like he did last year, and he neeeds to draft better than he has in the past, trades should also be another route to examine. I sorry, but 3-6 years of this bullshit is not acceptable.

Swayman was having a very good game, until the 2nd goal. Another last minute goal.
It seemed like Swayman was on his knees for 5 minutes before Doroyefev even fired the puck.
He goes down way too easy, and open ups the top part of the net in doing so. I see this time and time again.
This needs to be corrected.

Korpasalo,DiPietro and Bussi can lead us through the next 2 to seasons of dark ages no chance of playoff hockey that we are facing.
Geekie-Zacha-Pasta
Bennett-Mittlestadt-Marner
Khusnutdinov-Poitras-Lindholm
Lauko-Minten-Kastellic

Lindholm-McAvoy
Zadorov-Jokiharju
Lohrei-Peeke

Korpasalo
Good backup

That's not dark ages, that's a playoff team that can win a couple rounds. I'm assuming Sweeney takes Hagens (BC, small, at least a couple years away) so no help from this years draft.

let`s call a spade a spade, while Sway has had a few nice moments this year, his game , much like his teammates, has been ass most of the year. Yep, he hasn`t gotten a ton of help but his rebound control, his movements from post to post has been noticeably slower and we are way past the point of being able to say this was due to a missed camp

I`m not as sold on the B`s long term goalie solution as some here are

It does you are correct, a fresh start somewhere else, might work wonders for him, I do know it would for me.

Swayman really really didn't like arbitration it seems. Lucky for him, he doesn't have to go through it again.

Below are the 15 worst teams in the League based on Points Percentage -- and the goalies for those teams who have played more than 20 games.

Swayman is in Blue Type -- Boston is ranked 24th in League. Currently in the 9th pick slot.

Goalies with numbers in RED TYPE have same as or better numbers than Swayman for GAA or SV%. In many cases both.

Getting paid like one of the best, but arguably playing like one of the worst goalies in the NHL.

I think many would be less worried about Swayman if he stole a few games, but that just hasn't happened. Any NHL goalie can make a great save here and there.

Kinda puts the "but he's on a bad team!" argument to rest.

All these guys are on shit teams, yet Swayman still stands head (and sometimes shoulders!) above the rest on the suck scale

This is ANOTHER example of why you don't pay premium money to goaltenders. ANY goaltender, not just Swayman. Its also another example of why you don't leave yourself without any leverage during a contract negotiation by trading one of your goalies before the other one is extended.

85% of the people on this board wanted Swayman extended and wanted him to get paid. There's a lot of selective amnesia around here regarding that. My how things have changed.....

I'm in that 85. I wasnt pleased about the leverage thing but certainly didn't expect Swayman to fall on his face so quickly. Contract was just a hair too high for my preferences, but I felt he was a worthy gamble.
