@Gee Wally

We have numerous deletions and more in here. We know tension and emotions are high.
But you folks must simply stop taking personal shots at each. Stay to topic.

If not we will be left with no choice other than adding thread bans.

BOSTON — Boston Bruins president Cam Neely suggested Monday that the team has made an eight-year offer to unsigned restricted free agent goaltender Jeremy Swayman at $8 million annually.

“I don’t want to get into the weeds with what his ask is,” Neely said at a news conference at TD Garden. “But I know that I have 64 million reasons why I’d be playing right now.”

Neely did not disclose what Swayman’s ask has been but said he was surprised by it.

So far, Swayman is holding firm to his demand. It aligns with his personality of not backing down, especially following his uncomfortable 2023 arbitration hearing. According to Neely, Swayman wants to set a new market for goalies, specifically ones under team control.

“What his ask is and what we believe his comp group is,” Neely said, “are two different things.”

General manager Don Sweeney said he remains in contact with Lewis Gross, Swayman’s agent. The Bruins are not interested in trading Swayman.

“Ultimately, we’re a better team, as I’ve said all along, if Jeremy is part of our hockey club,” Sweeney said. “That’s my intention. That’s my wish. I’ll continue to work to do that. I think Jeremy and the team are both hurt in this regard. That’s what I’ll do. I’ll continue to work hard to find a settling point.”

With only three preseason games left, it is likely Swayman will miss regular-season time, even if an agreement is pending. Coach Jim Montgomery designated Joonas Korpisalo as his goalie for the regular-season opener against the Florida Panthers on Oct. 8, regardless of Swayman’s situation. The Bruins have two full practices remaining in camp.

“Where we are in camp right now, with how well camp has gone and how well Korpisalo has done,” Montgomery said, “right now, he’s going to be our Game 1 starter.”

How good is the offer?

Swayman would become the fifth-highest-paid goalie in the NHL under the Bruins’ offer, behind Sergei Bobrovsky, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Connor Hellebuyck and Ilya Sorokin. Only Vasilevskiy ($9.5 million average annual value) signed his contract as a pending restricted free agent. The others were due to become unrestricted.

It is a significant payday for Swayman, considering he has never been a regular-season No. 1 goalie.

A lot of the "Swayman is being a baby" crowd are being seriously dishonest in here.

Stop acting like if you had a salary negotiation with your employer and they turned every possible thing they could into a negative to justify paying you less that in the next negotiation you'd hold no grudge and happily accept whatever they offered you and wouldn't push for all the pay you could.

And no, him being a pro athlete doesnt make it different. At the end of the day its just an employee/employer dispute
What's the time limit on whining about what happened in an arbitration hearing? I'm hoping it's a year so in 10 or so days we can be spared this bullshit.

Swayman didn't like arbitration -- I get it, and can sympathize. However, what happened in arbitration has ZERO to do with this negotiation unless to suggest that the Bruins should pay a penalty on this contract for being big meanies who said mean things a year ago.

In all sincerity, if Swayman was my friend I'd be telling him to stop with this shit. It makes him look like a massive whiner - plus it's f***ing tone deaf. World's an ugly place right now and Jeremy has rich white man problems. And I wouldn't say that to him not to be mean but to help a friend stop doing something that is not good for him.

"Jeremy, I get it. You're holding a grudge. I don't blame you one bit - I'd feel the same way. But for God's sake, stop with public complaints that they said hurtful things a year ago and you will never forget it stuff. Nobody cares about that part and now you've said it several times publicly people are going to think you are just a massive p***y. Stop it."

Don't know who his friends are, but someone needs to tell him what reality is. Hold out if you want. but shut your mouth on this part.

If Swayman needs to complain about arbitration and how much he's paid every single day to build the chip on his shoulder to help him excel, I welcome it. Whatever helps him play the best
Yeah, how many times have we heard the term "bulletin board material" and welcome it as a motivator? Shouldn't change just because his own team provided the material.

That said, I wish he would get over it in not bringing it up to media over and over - we already know it hurt his feelings, seems like posturing to bring it up again, keep it to yourself and let it motivate you

Is it even possible to trade him now. Who is going to give up real assets to take on this headache? Wouldn't a contract have to already be in place?

No. Bruins would just trade his rights. As an RFA he can talk to any team first , agree on a contract in principle and see if Bruins can work out a trade.

Michael Jordan made a career out of it, but we didn’t know about it until “The Last Dance.”

“Hearing you’re not worthy of what you think you’re worthy of” Wow. Isn’t that what every player hears in arbitration hearings?
So did this kid get everything that he wanted as a kid? Imagine if my parents didn't get me the bike I wanted but a few years later I did.

How is this kid going to survive Boston after this is done....if he leaves, he might need a police escort to the rink as a visitor.

Thanks. That seems like an awful lot of cooperation going on between 3 parties. I wish they'd trade him but it just feels logistically difficult.

At the end of the day he is looking at 50+ million for a few years to play a game.

Out of touch with reality with the crying in the media. Keep it to himself is the wiser plan. Be offended and motivated all he wants but appealing to fans and media as a victim deserves to be ridiculed.

This circus is going to derail our season.

8x8 is already overly generous for someone so unproven, with almost all of the risk being on the Bruins side.

They need to cut bait and move on, this has already gone too far.
The only thing that will derail the season is Sweeney turning a Jennings winning combo into shields and Hackett

Thats the way to do it if a contract is agreed to in advance. But doesnt mean the Bruins cant also just flat out trade his rights to any team now and let that team deal with his demands.
